Fuck! I can’t wait.January 8, 2013 at 8:25 pm #267924
Ahhh… So good to have Justified back! Glad to see the humor is just as sharp as ever. That cold open was very Six Feet Under, wasn’t it? Chris Chalk played the fugitive, and it took me the whole episode to figure out that he played Tom Walker on Homeland (and Gary Cooper on Newsroom). I looked him up on IMDB, and found he played another character named Tom Walker on an episode of Law and Order back in 2004. Patton Oswalt is going to be a good addition to the season. Really enjoyed this episode.January 8, 2013 at 11:53 pm #267925
Such a solid episode, as expected. There’s a lot going on here, but it all worked in establishing a good setup for the season. Raylan checking in on his father’s shenanigans worked in a lot of ways. The only thing that was bothersome were those kids. In all fairness, I’m sure they were supposed to be annoyingly naive, but their presence was a little taxing. Not unwatchable or any level of dealbreaker, but best taken with a grain of salt. Patton Oswalt essentially playing a very Oswalt-ian character is kind of neat. It’s not cartoonish, but it’s still engaging in a good way. As for Boyd and his war buddy, that was a really good B-plot. It set up further plot for the season and was quite funny and surprising in all of the right ways. This Preacher Billy stuff could be really good. Hopefully, he doesn’t turn into some Eli Sunday impression.
Anyhow, this was a really good episode. This looks like an exciting season.January 9, 2013 at 7:40 am #267926
episode, I didn’t enjoy it as much as last season’s premiere but it was
good enough, Oswalt look’s to be a fun character, but I was hoping that
they would take him more seriously than this, Olyphant is as good as
always and I lookfor to this serpent preacher thing to be a great arc on
Hole in the wall: B+January 9, 2013 at 9:04 am #267927
I thought this was awesome and possibly the best premiere of all the seasons. This is the first time I feel like they took their time establishing the new characters in the season, which in effect could lead to even more nuanced, fully fleshed out supporting cast. As much as I enjoyed Neal MacDonough and Mykelti Williamson last year, they at times felt very manic in their unfolding as characters. This feels much more like a slow and steady push, whilst still maintaining this show show innate ability to mix serial with procedural. And Constable Bob is going to be a blast, I can already tell.January 17, 2013 at 5:22 pm #267928
What a great episode. Love the return of Wynn Duffy, but I kind of missed Constable Bob. Beth Grant was kind of an awesome guest spot. Personally, I really appreciated that she could break out of that snide, disgustingly conservative mold she’s cultivated over the years. Walton Goggins was fantastic all over. From his scene with Preacher Billy (genius, by the way) and his confrontation with Duffy, he was really on fire tonight. That revelation at the end was to be expected, but worked. Randall, Lindsey’s husband, is so kickass. I love him. I really hope he stays around for a while. In fact, the way he was introduced was so inspired and so well done that it makes his character that much more interesting. On the whole, this was an incredibly good episode of Justified. So many things worked really well. It was funny, dramatic, engulfing, and completely chilling at times. Every part was well balanced and perfectly paced. So far, this is setting up to be a really good season.
