So Kelsey Grammer recently spoke to Jay Leno about his big snub at the Emmys for his dynamic performance in Boss.  He seems to believe that the fact that he’s an “out of the closet Republican” was one of the factors in his being snubbed:

What do you guys think?  The article states that very few people have seen Boss, which seems to be the more likely reason but I think this brings up an interesting discussion.  Do we see politics getting in the way of certain performances or is Grammer just acting entitled?

Grammer was an open Republican when he won for Frasier (the last time) and for The Simpsons.

I Watched the interview an he didn’t really say that he blames for being a repulican, he was making a joke about younger voters. I think him getting snubbed was horrible. I agree with Leno that people need to find starz. I say he gets in next year.

Maybe this comment being blown way out of proportion is just what the show and Starz needed for people to actually check out the show.  It is quite good and worthy of accolades.

^Besides a nod for Grammer, no it isn’t.

The biggest snub of this year’s Emmys by a mile.

Kelsey Grammer could’ve won with any ep.

The writing on the show was fairly crisp and a few episodes that weren’t overly directed like the finale deserved a nomination.

I think it’s just a lame attempt to be funny.

I haven’t watched any episodes of BOSS so I’m can’t speculate whether Grammer’s snub was deserved or not, but I do know that he is a “moderate” Republican, supportive of gay rights, etc., and NOT one of those nasty extremist Republicans who want to turn USA into a theocracy (like Mitt Romney, etc.).

BTW, I think FRASIER is one of the best sitcoms ever.

Politics aside, there’s no reason he should have been left off for the likes of Hugh Bonneville or Michael C. Hall. With Grammer and Hugh Laurie being in the race, we would have had one heck of a four-way battle with Cranston/Grammer/Laurie/Lewis and then the perennially nominated Jon Hamm and Steve Buscemi, there just to be there (Hall’s chance has come and gone; he was robbed of the won for season four and shot himself in the foot last year. Yet another great role that will go Emmyless, sort of his fault and sort of not. But he shouldn’t be here.).

    Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
    Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
    Kelsey Grammer, Boss
    Jon Hamm, Mad Men
    Hugh Laurie, House
    Damian Lewis, Homeland

AHHH how that would have been such a tough majorly awesome category. But now, it’s so easy to peg Cranston as the winner that I haven’t even really given this category much thought. A friend asked, and I was like, “Oh easy. Cranston’s winning the fourth. Now lets talk about Lead Comedy Actress.”

Wasn’t Patricia Heaton a strong republican when she was nominated all those years for Everybody Loves Raymond?

I don’t know if Grammer was snubbed for being a Republican, but I think Rourke might have been.

It’s simply unjustifiable to believe Sean Penn (an outspoken democrat), was better in “Milk” than Rourke in “The Wrestler”. I’m still not over that.

I preferred Penn’s performance myself but none of them compared to what Richard Jenkins did in The Visitor, one of my all-time favorite out-of-nowhere but totally deserving nominations (happened twice that year with Melissa Leo getting in for Frozen River).

But we’re getting way off topic here. Grammer had a better episode with the pilot; Cranston had a better season; Laurie had a massive due factor. Only one of those three actually got in and he’s gonna win this so easily.
