Sally Draper is heading to Lifetime.

Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka has landed a leading role as Cathy Dollanganger in the upcoming Lifetime movie Flowers in the Attic, Deadline reports. Mason Dye has also been cast as Cathy’s older brother, Chris.

Based on V.C. Andrews’ controversial 1979 novel, Flowers in the Attic is about four young siblings who are abandoned by their mother and are subsequently subjected to physical and emotional abuse while living in their grandparents’ attic.

Ellen Burstyn has been cast as the grandmother, Olivia, and Heather Graham is playing the mother, Corinne.

Will you watch Flowers in the Attic?

But it’s on Lifetime. So lets keep the champagne in the chiller for now.

That isn’t an automatic indication of bad quality. It’s still major news and a greatly deserved get for Shipka.

I have confidence because I like Kiernan and even if it’s not good I will still watch for her.

Ellen Burstyn has another opportunity to go crazy-pants after Coma.  I’d watch it just for that, but Kiernan is another plus.

She’s gonna get her own teen show in a few years, isn’t she?

It’s actually been a while since Kiernan has impressed me on Mad Men, but this is bound to be something worth watching whether it’s decent or it’s on the complete opposite end of decent.

Uh what? Are you familiar with this source material? This isn’t some TV movie of the week “Women in Peril” type deal. Much will ride on who’s directing and adapting this novel, but just b/c it’s on Lifetime instead of HBO doesn’t mean to automatically expect the worst.

No, but it not being bad doesn’t mean it’ll be a big Emmy contender like you implied, especially considering it’s on Lifetime.
