Who will be the last man standing for Modern Family Jesse
Tyler Ferguson or Ty Burrell?
When Modern Family first entered the Emmy arena in 2010
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ty Burrell, and Eric Stonestreet all were nominated with
Stonestreet prevailing. It was a shock that TV legend Ed O’Neill was left out.
O’Neill, would join his co-stars in 2011 and 2012. Burrell, would win in 2011
and Stonestreet would claim his second trophy in 2012. Then a funny thing
happened in 2013, Stonestreet was snubbed and Tony Hale riding a wave of
support for both his nominated performance in Veep and love for Arrested
Development ended Modern Family’s strangle hold on this category. When it came
time to predicting nomination for 2014 coming off the Wedding Season many were
predicting Stonestreet would re-enter the category but O’Neill was left off the
list with him. Burrell with two strong episodes still pulled out his second
But this raises the question if the support for Modern
Family keeps decreasing then who will be left off this year? Perennial nominee
Ferguson or a two-time winner Burrell? If history is to be used as our barometer
it would be Burrell but I cannot see that happen since he’s arguably still one
of the strongest parts of Modern Family. For now I’ve had to move Ferguson to
sixth place because I have a feeling he is in danger.June 10, 2015 at 5:21 am #349937
Burrell for sure. He’ll be the David Hyde Pierce of this show, nominated for every season until the end, even when the show stops winning series.June 10, 2015 at 6:54 am #349938
Burrell, easily.June 10, 2015 at 8:41 am #349939
Burell, but to be honest none of the Modern Family guys deserve nominations anymore. It’s time to move on.June 10, 2015 at 9:34 am #349940
I’m keeping the both of them in my predictions.June 10, 2015 at 12:38 pm #349941
Ty Burrell. He was able to snap Alec Baldwin’s streak and win an individual SAG.June 10, 2015 at 1:02 pm #349942
Both. They have a lot of love for Jesse Tyler Fergusson, and Burrel is a two time winner. I’m keeping both of them in my predictions, specially since this catergory doesn’t have much strong competition this year.June 10, 2015 at 6:27 pm #349943
I also think both will get in again this year…
My current predix:
1. Tony Hale, Veep
2. Ty Burrell, Modern Family
3. Titus Burgess, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (my pick to win)
4. Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine Nine
5. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family
6. Chris Pratt, Parks and RecJune 10, 2015 at 10:25 pm #349944
Burrell for sure. He’ll be the David Hyde Pierce of this show, nominated for every season until the end, even when the show stops winning series.
Ty Burrell is gonna win one more. He’s worthy.June 11, 2015 at 3:40 am #349945
I think Burrell has the wider support to keep him in the category for longer than Tyler-Ferguson, just based on him having enough support to win twice. Also, I think Phil is a funnier character than Mitchell, which Emmy voters tend to go for with the Comedy categories – the funnier series, the funnier characters.
I currently have Burrell to win a third this year, with Tyler-Ferguson joining him as a nominee, but both O’Neill & Stonestreet to miss out. I also have Burrell in my Dream ballot, but no other Modern Family actor.
My Predictions: My Dream Ballot:
Ty Burrell – Modern Family Russell Tovey – Looking
Tony Hale – Veep Max Greenfield – New Girl
Andre Braugher – Brooklyn Nine Nine Ty Burrell – Modern Family
Jesse Tyler Ferguson – Modern Family Tituss Burgess – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

TJ Miller – Silicon Valley TJ Miller – Silicon ValleyJune 11, 2015 at 8:16 am #349946
I think both of them are definitely getting in this year, and deservingly so.
If one were to be the last man standing in the next years, it’ll be burrell.June 11, 2015 at 9:45 am #349947
Burrell. I suspect Ferguson has just barely snuck in there a year or two, and has become a perennial nominee so far mostly by lucky coincidence. I expect him this year, but I don’t think they necessarily like him more than Stonestreet as a rule.June 11, 2015 at 9:51 am #349948
Ferguson hardly had anything to work with this year! And his character is probably the cheesiest one on the show, I actually can’t really stand Mitchell.
Burrell will continue to get nominated, and he could squeak out another win this year, as he has SEVERAL episodes to choose from.June 11, 2015 at 2:14 pm #349949
Burrell is and always was my MVP and is totally worthy of everything he gets. In the end he’ll be the one to get the most from the Emmys.
I’m not sure if he’ll be the only one nominated this year. With new rules it might be easier for Stonestreet to return than for new names to overcome JTF.
