Is that a record for an actor?

I know people are nuts over JLD, but I honestly think that Metcalf is so much better on “Getting On” than JLD on “Veep”. Hoping for an impossible upset…

Tracee Ellis Ross would be the one to upset. I think after Dreyfus wins her fifth consecutive victory the Emmy voters will look for an alternative despite what I believe will likely be her strongest work for season six of Veep.

It took truly dynamite tapes (from Kirstie Alley and Roseanne) to take down Candice Bergen in this category. Not sure if any of the non-JLD ladies have such a thing this year but that’s what’s ultimately necessary.

Considering tapes don’t matter much anymore and haven’t mattered that much in the comedy categories for at least five years, a dynamic submission is not what’s required to take down JLD.

JLD deserves another win this year, but so does Metcalf – she is absolutely phenomenal and funny on a completely different level. I hope she upsets the Lead Actress race. Such a QUEEN.

Was it not just that weird 2013 when tapes did not matter (and last year of course)? The best tape did not always win in other years, but I just chalked that up to the Emmys having bad taste, since the winners remained in line with their sensibilities and bias toward loud and hammy tapes.

She deserves to win for Horace and Pete.

I can see her winning both guest categories if you ask me.

Only in lead actor did tapes seem to leave much of impression over the last five years. Lead actress has just gone to Emmy favorites and buzzy actors since McCarthy’s victory. The supporting categories have been pretty random. I think the nature of TV comedy has become so different and varied over the last ten years, and of course comedy is subjective. It’s weakened the impact of tapes in the comedy categories, though perhaps didn’t completely snuff out their impact. Though their impact in drama will be missed.
