We’re less than 10 days away from this years crop of Emmy nominees (July 16). Part of me thinks it’ll be the same ‘ol same ‘ol, while the other part of me hopes these geezers have turned over a new leaf and will start throwing in fresh, deserving nominees (c’mon Constance Wu!).
How about you? Do you think we all here are just hanging on hope (Outlander/Kimmy Schmidt/Jane the Virgin/Thomas Middleditch/Eden Sher/etc)? Will there only be one or two surprises and nothing more (Schumer/Kerry Washington/etc)? Or will the same shows once again hog up all the spots (Modern/Mad Men/SNL/GoT/etc)?
Also, if you could have just one dream-come-true nominee, who would it be? And if you could dispose of one perennial nominee, what/who would it be?
My dream-come-true nominee: Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin (Lead Actress, Comedy)
My disposal perennial nominee: Veep (Comedy Series)July 7, 2015 at 8:59 am #352548
I’m just excited to see what happens. I’m hoping there’ll be a lot of new nominees but I’m not going to get my hopes up.
Dream nominee- the other cast members of Parks and Rec
Disposal nominee- Big Bang TheoryJuly 7, 2015 at 9:00 am #352549
Since television is continual, seasonal and ongoing, i don’t expect all categories to be overhauled. This is not the movie business. Or the Oscars.
But i do hope for some major left field nominations. Underdogs of sorts. Passion picks.
My dream-come-true nominee: Carrie Coon – The Leftovers (Supporting Drama Actress)
My disposal perennial nominee: Amy Poehler – Parks and Recreation (Lead actress Comedy). The queen of the perennials. Rather stay home this time around Amy.
With lots of love, Avi.July 7, 2015 at 9:08 am #352550
I gave up hope that the emmys would go for the best in tv and not going by hype or name-checking. Under-rated shows (which are critics darlings) dont have a chance at the emmys, like rectify, the fall, the americans, hannibal and so on. Shows like Empire, Downton Abbey, Mondern Family will be – yet again – nominated. But then shows – which had a cultural impact – like Buffy, The Wire, The Shield, Battlestar Galatica and so on – never were the favourites of the emmys, but are the shows, that people remember. In the end it is a popularity contest (so thank God there are the Critic Choices and TCAs).
Having said that, my dream nominees would be shows like The Americans, Justiifed, Rectify or acting nods to Eva Green, Vera Farmiga, Gillian Anderson or Keri Russell.
I dont understand the hype about Outlander at all. The books are good but the show in comparison is awfully written and the acting is sometimes more melodramatic than in daytime soap operas.July 7, 2015 at 9:46 am #352551
I don’t expect there to be a complete overhaul either. I hope to see some new underdogs nominated, but other than that – same old, same old. I think the addition of 1 extra series in the Series categories adds some hope.July 7, 2015 at 10:15 am #352552
There will be new names and series in the drama categories compared to last year but that doesn’t mean to say that all of them will be new names/series. However I think most of the comedy winners and nominees will be the same.
One dream come true: The Americans in all of the eligible categories or Eva Green in lead actress category.
Disposal perennial nominee: Anything Downton Abbey related or anything The Big Bang Theory related I can’t decide between themJuly 7, 2015 at 10:20 am #352553
If this is the year where we don’t see Downton Abbey and The Big Bang Theory on the list of nominees, I will be one happy camper.July 7, 2015 at 10:26 am #352554
DREAM COME TRUE: any nominations for show or acting–the americans//the fall//sons of anarchy//hannibal
DISPOSAL: anything downton abbey//veep//snl-actingJuly 7, 2015 at 9:05 pm #352555
dream: more veep actors/ directing, americans,
disposal: downton abbey and all its actors, big bang theory
also, I just have a weird feeling about this year’s emmys- with all the rule changes and no true detective/ breaking bad, i just think there’s going to be about one major surprise nominee in pretty much every category.
Who nows, it could be exactly as predicted, but lets hope not.July 7, 2015 at 9:57 pm #352556
Dream: Eva Green (Penny Dreadful) and Carrie Coon (The Leftovers).
Disposal: TBBT.July 7, 2015 at 10:33 pm #352557
Dream Nominee: Nick Offerman – Parks and Recreation (actually any of the cast that’s never been nominated)
Disposal Perennial Nominee: Jim Parsons – The Big Bang Theory
