Hey, thanks to the Youtube I was able to discover what a treasure “Mad TV” was. Why these great comedy performers, especially Debra Wilson and Michael McDonald, were never nominated?

I guess it was a matter of it always being low rated and viewed as a copy of SNL. And it’s not like they were very welcoming of SNL actors in the Individual Performance category either.

I think that during MadTV’s time on the air no more than five actors must’ve been nominated from SNL in that category. I know Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell were nominated, and only once each. Tina Fey also got a nod as a host. So the chances of a MadTV actor getting in were pretty slim.

I think MadTV was still on the air when the move to the supporting categories was made, even then only Poehler and Wiig got nominated so again, not that very welcoming to SNL actors either.

But I definitely agree that both McDonald and Wilson are actors who deserved those nominations, two of the most hilarious performers I’ve ever seen. Between Whitney, Oprah, Stuart, Tim Gunn, Dr Phil among many other sketches they were huge standouts.

I really don’t know.  I would say because it was on Fox, but In Living Color garnered many ‘big’ nominations a few years before.  I agree that the actors and the writing were on fire back when the show first started and into the late 90s/very early 00s.  This show was so much better than SNL during that time period.

Alex Borstein, Mo Collins, Orlando Jones, Phil LeMarr, Michael
McDonald, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Nicole Sullivan, Stephanie Weir and Debra
Wilson all deserved recognition.  Maybe they were just too little known to be mentioned?

I love this show and for a long time it surpassed SNL. I have no idea why none of the actors got nominated……

I think it was just seen as too young for voters and was considered a bit too immature for many to take seriously.

With that said, I loved the show and thought it was hilarious,  It had some fine performers throughout it’s run. Sadly it clearly lost it’s legs by the end.

My personal favorites were:  Nicole Sullivan, Debra Wilson, Alex Borstein, Michael McDonald, Stephanie Weir and Mo Collins.
