    Hope everyone at the Academy sleeps well tonight knowing they have ruined the legitimacy of their awards.

    Scolari won simply because of the brewhaha over him being added to the ballot late.

    I want Bates to win three. Her nomination count is in the double digits.

    That’s interesting. That’s what makes predicting the Emmys now much harder. They seem to be more populist in nature. For example, in Martindale’s category, both Burstyn and Metcalf had much stronger tapes. Anyone truly watching the episodes would see that.

    You know, someone mentioned this on the forums and it’s got me thinking. Are enough voters even serious about these guest categories? How many of them probably didn’t even vote here or just decided to vote for their favorite people in these 4 categories?

    Maybe they’ll be more serious in the other categories? Perhaps more of them will vote in those categories as well?

    Guest categories have always been a crap shoot no matter the tapes. But Martindale doesn’t win either Emmy under the old system. Hopefully unlike last year enough of the media will call voters out, especially now that The Americans is a real Emmy contender and doesn’t have to settle for a wildly undeserved guest win.

    The only one I really bombed in predicting was Scolari. I had Margo in 2nd behind Burstyn, and I correctly predicted both Hank Azaria and the Tina/Amy wins.

    If you’re predicting GoT to win any acting award next week, I strongly suggest you reconsider that prediction.

    This is really embarrassing on the Academy’s part.

    WHY?! They won freaking 9 Emmys tonight alone, 1 more than they did last year at the Creative Arts! I moved Dinklage to 1st because of tonight’s unbelievable sweep. Von Sydow was never going to beat eventual winner Azaria or even Fox, I believe.

    His loss means nothing for Dinklage, Headey (OR Clarke?) neither of which I believe vote-splitting will be a problem, since they are both such strong frontrunners, and nobody is giving Maggie Smith an Award, when even Michelle Dockery and Jim Carter couldn’t get back in, and it’s universally known by now the Dame won’t be attending the ceremony!

    That makes no sense. Von Sydow was never winning his category and so in no way is his loss an indicator of what’s to come. Remember Dianna Rig lost last year as well and GOT still won writing, directing and Dinklage.

    Although I’m predicting Maura Tierney in supporting actress because of vote splitting, I have Heady at a close 2nd.

    Still predicting Harrington.

    I knew it would happen. I considered changing to Martindale yesterday and L did not. Stupid me.

    The Emmys just hit rock bottom with this one. Martindale does absolutely nothing in the Americans.

    This is what I wrote last year about the situation;

    I think we need to calm down a bit.
    Martindale’s win can’t be considered as bad as Ellen Burstyn’s nomination for her 14 second performance in 2005 because;
    A-Guest categories aren’t considered and presented as one of the main categories. Most of the media don’t even publish those when they announce the nominees and
    no one actually pays much attention to them besides us.
    B-Regardless of how many scenes she appears in her submitted episode, this is a continuing performance in a continuing program.(unlike Burstyn’s)
    And you can’t prevent people from thinking ”Wow. She was really good in that first season of that show that critics have been trying to shove down through our throats, I’m
    voting for her” because only us TV freaks are committed to keep updated everything about what’s happened and what’s not in shows on daily basis, it’d be naive to
    think otherwise. TV is a giant thing.

    And if people are championing Jon Hamm’s ”career achivement” win when they admit that he wasn’t the best in his category but should have won because he deserved when you think 8 year as a whole, this situation isn’t entirely different. I would say as a whole, Martindale’s Claudie deserved to win
    an Emmy long before Cicely Tyson deserved for playing Viola Davis’ mother on HGAWM if that makes any sense.

    But this 2nd win is not right.
    I still would like to think this is Emmy voters’ trying to give The Americans something they can knowing it can’t stand a chance in big categories or New voters who have just binged the show after hearing so much acclaim impressed by her perf. Because let’s admit it. Even here in Goldderby, everyone
    has a favourite show of their own that they think is underrepresented and would do anything to help those whenever they can.
    Like she said in her speech a win for her, a win for The Americans.

    This is me trying too hard to find an explain to all this, while the answer is simple and they just like her.

    I honestly just feel, as sad as it sounds, no one actually gives a shit about these guest categories (especially now more than ever with a popular system). A part of me just wants to ignore these wins altogether as any indicator of what’s to come for that reason.

    The Emmys just proved to be one of the worst awards show on judging talent and performances.

    Trust me, there’s going to be a lot of undeserving winners in the major categories. They don’t watch anything. They just vote on who they like and admired the most.
