I have been watching episodes of The Jeffersons on TV One at night. I haven’t seen the show since I was a kid. Obviously Isabel Sanford won a deserved Emmy. Watching the reruns, I am absolutely god smacked that Marla Gibbs did not take home a single Emmy in 5 nominations. She is hilarious in the role and steals every scene. Her chemistry with Sherman Hemsley is comedic bliss. She had several episodes that centered around her character which should have fared well in a tape system. She faced good competition (losing to Eileen Brennan, Loretta Swit, Carol Kane, and Rhea Perlman 2 times) but she is even better.
I would add Marla with Jessica Walter in Arrested Development, Kim Cattrall in Sex and the City, and Jane Krakowski in 30 Rock as the worst snubs in that category.
Shame Emmy voters!
Also, Julia Duffy in “Newhart” deserved to win at least once.
For whatever inexplicable reason, the Emmys never fell for The Jeffersons like they did All in the Family or even Maude. Sanford prevailed when the writers gave her full-fledged Emmy vehicle (“And the Doorknobs Shined Like Diamonds”) but I cannot recall Gibbs ever earning a showcase on that level.

Totally agreed. Marla was superb! However, you need to look no further than Sherman Hemsley being emmy-less for the iconic role of George Jefferson as indicator as well. I’m not sure what episodes Marla submitted, but she should easily be entitled emmy winner for the role of Florence Johnson or Jonhston, whatever her last name was. LOL
