Although there is no metacritic score yet, there have been several raves so far. There have also been complaints that the show is being released at the wrong time, but is there ever a good time to release a show that sympathizes with a ex veteran mass murderer? I have learned to no longer have hope that a Marvel show will catch on at the Emmys, but Bernthal could at least be a contender for a critics choice nomination, as he has been the spotlight of all the reviews, and the show is being released at the same time Jessica Jones was, which got critics choice nomination for Ritter.November 13, 2017 at 7:39 am #1202409266
As with all Marvel series, there are complaints that it is too long, too slow, and too stretched out. The Hollywood Reporter does not give a very good review.
Sepinwall also gives a harsh review for it being “The wrong show at the wrong time”
Harsh reiew that gives it a solid grade of a B
And yes, if we’re judging purely on the act of transforming into a character, Bernthal absolutely deserves an Emmy nomination for this one. His performance has been far elevated from the days of Daredevil.
Bernthal is perfectly cast in the comic-book character’s surprisingly great standalone series
I expect this to land in the 60’s on metacritic.November 13, 2017 at 8:06 am #1202409279
If there was anybody who deserved a nomination for a Marvel Netflix show it was Bernthal for S2 of DD for his monologue in episode four alone. I’m ready for it. I can believe it’s too long and slow-burning because as you said pretty much all the shows have suffered from this. I’ll still watch it, I sat through the second half of Luke Cage/the first half of Iron Fist/The Defenders which I all found weak letdowns so my expectations aren’t high anymore, and the timing isn’t an issue to me. Shame the material still doesn’t seem to be strong enough for him yet though.November 13, 2017 at 8:24 am #1202409292
Not very excited about the show, even though Bernthal was great in Daredevil. This should have been an 8-episodes season.November 13, 2017 at 8:36 am #1202409313
I wish critics would look at art itself instead of letting their opinions be swayed by the artist or current political climate. Sonia Sarayia wrote an article that was essentially a retraction of her rave of Louie that sort of made me lose respect for critics in general. Difficult People adds a few Trump jokes and then Liz Shannon Miller calls it the deepest season yet. Like really? I really don’t like critics these days.November 13, 2017 at 8:43 am #1202409325
After iron Fist and Defenders … Its gonna be hard to start another marvel show … i hope its better than those.

Debuted with a 58 on metacritic. Yikes.
