When filling out emmy predictions, I realized one of my favorite performances of the year was not even a choice for my predictions: Lily Rabe, for American Horror Story: Asylum.
Apparently the emmys are doing away with the supproting actor/actress category for tv movie and miniseries. Lumping all lead and supporting actors into one category where obviously the leads have a better shot, with more screentime.
Does this spell doom for our favorite supporting players in these categories? Even if you think AHS was convoluted and silly this year, there is no denying the show was anchored by three incredible female performances. Lange, Paulson, and Rabe all killed it this season. And Lily Rabe’s Devil was one of the most intruiging character portrayals Ive seen in a long while.
But since Lange is a high profile star, and Sarah Paulson had more screentime (including the gut wrecnhing conversion therapy scene), they are bound to get in before her. Does anyone think Rabe has a shot? Does anyone have other favorite supporting players from the movie/mini field that will be left in the dust come nominations trime? Id hate to see brilliant supporting actors squandered and it feels like that is what is indeed happening.
Peter Mullan. It’ll be a terrible snub.
Lily Rabe did Jessica Lange season 1 of AHS work this past season and that’s the rub for me w/this move.
I think it would have been set out like this:
Lead Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie
Lead Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie
Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie
Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie
