I tried searching for a 2nd season thread and couldn’t find one, so here we go.

Season 2 debuts July 13th. Here is the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc-AsN7d1wg

Today, USA announced an extra order of episodes, now at 12…as well as a live after-show after each episode.

Also, congrats to the show on its recent TCA Award nominations…Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Individual Achievement in Drama (Rami Malek) and Outstanding New Program!

Logistically I’d be worried about the quality of the season if the writers of the show just heard of this 20% expansion of what they’ve probably been laying out for months.

I mean, when a sitcom gets 2 extra episodes ordered on top of 22 or whatever, it doesn’t make as big a difference, sitcoms aren’t that serialized, and there’s a much longer gap between the order and when the extra eps air.

This doesn’t seem like the type of decision the network springs on a showrunner a few weeks out from the premiere – seems more like they discovered during the filming process that the story would work better in 12 parts and since USA wants to do well by the most critically acclaimed show in its history, they agreed. Esmail doesn’t seem like the type to inorganically tread water for two episodes just so a network can get a few extra hours into its schedule.

    Either way, I’m hyped!!

Two extra episodes this close to air probably means that episodes were already long and they had extra material shot that could make up two episodes. I doubt they’re still shooting, let alone writing, a show that premieres two weeks from now.

Hmm, well I suppose if Top of the Lake and Downton Abbey could be reconfigured like a puzzle when aired in the US, this show can be too.

It’ll be interesting to see if the actual episode lengths are notably shorter from more commercial breaks.

Excited for more Robot. Glad they are doing an after show Seems like every show has one nowadays. When Fear the Dead has one, you know after shows have jumped the shark.

This is one of those rare times where the quality of the next season will impact the previous Emmys. It is especially pronounced because we have only seen one season, so the jury is out on whether the quality will endure or was just a flash in the pan. As for the first season, talk about an overrated show with three good episodes.

I’m not quite sure why ‘Mr. Robot’ was praised to the heavens. For me, it is in the same realm as ‘Orphan Black’ S1.

It has a layered, terrific performance from the lead, but it is a little undisciplined when it comes to story arcs. There is a very good chance the show goes completely off the rails in S2…

Episode 6 was incredible, plus one or onother good episodes, this is all, I gave up on this one when Slater started winning fuckload of awards, fuck that, shitty one note garbage of a performance.

I thought it was a good deal better than Orphan ever was, but I do agree there’s a very real possibility it goes off the rails. By necessity, the second season will have to be quite a departure from the first. The jury is still out if this one is sustainable.

What do you mean by this? That if season two is a disaster Emmys will look bad in hindsight for praising it in its first season (assuming it does well in nominations as anticipated)? Couldn’t the same be said for any first year show? Rewarding a great first season of a show that later goes to shit seem to be a relatively minor problem for the Emmys considering some of the awful choices it has made and will continue to make consistently in its nominations.

Clearly, given my icon, I had a much more positive take on the first season than the other posters here so maybe I am just much more confident in season two regardless.

No, he’s saying it would affect its chances to actually win Emmys for Season 1.

Maybe it’s not really fair, but it’s only natural that voter’s feelings on the show overall could sour if Season 2 is sub-par, and that will potentially be happening during the voting period.

Well that makes a lot more sense than how I took it lol.

LOL @ all the Robot naysayers. Very unlikely it will “go off the rails” as all of you like to say. You’re just hating because it’s “cool” to hate a critically acclaimed show. The episode expansion is a testament to creator Sam Esmail. HIGHLY doubt this decision randomly came up and the writers are scrambling. Not the case!

Here’s to what’s sure to be another beautiful masterpiece of a season. BYE, haters!

Is Mr. Robot a cool show or is it cool to hate it? It would be nice Mr. Robot turned out to be another The Killing that people effusively praise early on for reasons that I do not understand, but then they come around. Living up to its praise would alternatively be ideal, like The Americans for much of this season.

The twelve episodes will still be shown over ten weeks. The July 13 episodes are titled “eps2.0_unm4sk-pt1.tc” and “eps2.0_unm4sk-pt2.tc”. Sounds to me like they just decided not to edit. So the title of episode 2·03 starts with “eps.2.1_”, great.
