After allowing consulting producers the last two years, it looks like the academy is back to precluding them from nominations.  I wonder if Henry Bromell and Meredith Stiehm are the only in history to win a series Emmy with a consulting producer credit.

5 of the 6 men nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series are also nominated for Drama Series. Jeff Daniels is the odd man out.

Other producers who also received acting nominations this year for their programs: Louis C.K., Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mark Ruffalo and Cicely Tylson.

Pamela Adlon didn’t get an acting nomination but she is nominated for Comedy Series.

    Some interesting names:
    – Brad Pitt is nominated for “The Normal Heart”. He just won a Best Picture Oscar for “12 Years a Slave”.
    – Hallie Foote is nominated for “The Trip to Bountiful”. Her father, Horton Foote, received an Oscar nomination for the screenplay of the 1985 film version.
    – FOX News personality Bill O’Reilly is nominated for “Killing Kennedy”.
    – Jason Blum is nominated for “The Normal Heart”. His low-budget movies have been huge successes (“Paranormal Activity”, “Insidious”, “The Purge”).

I was partly thinking that the Coens might earn nominations as Executive Producers for Fargo, but it looks like their contributions were really far too minimal to be included.

Look how small Luther is.  Even Louie has a bigger crew, so good on them.  Not even Neil Cross is a producer.

Interesting, so regardless if it’s a Breaking/Matthew or True/Cranston split, each actor will get a win.
Well, there’s always the chance that one wins both or something else swoops in. Still.

Also if Ruffalo loses Actor to Freeman he would still presumably get an Emmy (I mean, the competition is Coven?).

It’s nice seeing Cicely Tyson and Hallie Foote as producers.

It seems like “British” productions have the fewest producers. Luther is almost unbelievable.

Does every producer get their own physical trophy…or do they share one?

And, yeah, Ruffalo’s getting an “Emmy” no matter what.

And, yeah, it looks like Pamela Adlon wasn’t snubbed after all (she was submitted in writing and guest acting).

Well I guess now either Freeman or Thornton can win leading actor as Ruffalo already has an award as a producer.

    They each get their own.

I have a stupid question.  What’s the difference between “producer” and “produced by”?

    For example:

    Bryan Cranston, Producer
    Diane Mercer, Producer
    Stewart A. Lyons, Produced by

    Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Producer
    Stephanie Laing, Produced by

    Alexis Martin Woodall, Producer
    Joseph Incaprera, Produced by

It is my understanding that “Produced by” generally goes to a person who is physically running day-to-day production (informally referred to as a “line producer”), whereas someone whose credit is more ornamental like a series star or staff writer would always be “Producer”.  Of course, once that “Produced by” producer gets promoted to supervising, co-executive or executive producer, they are no longer differentiated with “by”.

Wow! Cicely Tyson now has 11 Emmy nominations in her career. 10 acting nominations and her first executive producer nomination! That’s incredible!
