Never knew for sure if she was going to be in it but I’m pretty sure I just saw a preview with Cobie Smulders in it. I will officially now be watching this show. And yes that is what made the decision for me.

I have a feeling once HIMYM ends, Smulders will become a regular on this

    Episode 1.1:  Pilot
Written by Joss and Jed Whedon & Melissa Tancheroen; directed by Joss Whedon

After the events of The Avengers, a very much alive S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson assembles a small team to investigate a mysterious group called the Rising Tide. In doing so, they encounter Mike Peterson (J. August Richards), an ordinary man who has acquired superhuman powers.

I’m not sure about this show. I usually don’t like shows like this, but I am going to try to give this show a chance. But I am afraid I will be bored within the first 20 minutes of this show.

There are certain guarantees; death, taxes, and any show created by Joss Whedon has a very good chance of being awesomesauce. It’s about time he came back to TV.

I haven’t even watched th pilot yet, but I’m already predicting Joss Whedon to get a directing nomination for this. Unless the show flops, but I don’t think it will.

I expect the pilot to get great ratings. I have the show in my early Drama predictions for the Golden Globes.

Why is that?  At this point,
Whedon is best known for The Avengers, a popcorn blockbuster.  I do not see him as comparable to David Fincher whose The Social Network won Golden Globes and nearly won Oscars.  Quentin Tarantino was an Oscar winner and directing nominee for Pulp Fiction.  I do not even see him locked for an Emmy nomination the way that Christopher Nolan would be.

Because Christopher Nolan is an art-house auteur? Come on! They nominate popular directors, and that’s it. Barry Sonnefeld is far from being a big name in film and he is a winner for a show that had never been nominated for Series.

Whedon is a previous nominee, and an overdue one at that. He is arguably one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now and he is taking a spin-off to a billion dollar franchise to TV. It will a case of so many BIG aspects involved: big ratings, big name, big franchise, BIG. He’ll get nominated in some form for this show if it’s a success, regardless of the shwo being Emmy bait or not. I feel in the next following years we’ll be hearing a lot about Whedon, and they love to embrace TV names that become this BIG.

Let’s not be too quick to write Whedon off. The Avengers may be an action blockbuster. Unlike Transformers, though, plenty of people also view it as a great action blockbuster and a lot of that is thanks to Whedon’s direction. Even if Whedon isn’t on the same level of Fincher, Tarantino, or Scorsese, he is highly respected by the industry. Don’t forget that he’s an Emmy winner and Oscar nominee for the Toy Story screenplay. On top of that, if the Emmys nominated David Semel for Heroes in this category, why not Whedon for Agents of Shield?

Could we possibly see the big names like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans guest star as their respective Avenger characters?

There’s way too many jokes in this pilot and none of them are that funny.

Whedon has proven that he can create singular, brilliant hours of television with the best episodes of Buffy, Firefly, Angel and even Dollhouse. He’s been Emmy nominated and Oscar nominated for his writing. So, a future directing nod isn’t that extreme. However, I don’t see this pilot being directing a contender unless the show becomes a huge hit. It’s nothing special. He could get in there for a later episode, an acclaimed, buzzed about “Hush”-type effort. The problem is I’m not sure if this is a legit Whedon series. He’s focused on movies right now, and there is too much at stake for him to be allowed to make this as quirky and special as his other TV efforts. So, we may not get a “Hush”-type episode. But this pilot isn’t really a contender (unless the show becomes a huge hit).
