This was a good premiere, and MUCH better than the previous two season premieres. The best scene by far was the one at the end where the ladies are fighting by the swimming pool. I was not a big fan of Teri Hatcher’s acting last season, but she showed improvement this episode, and I hope that lasts. However, Susan’s emotional guilt over this could get boring soon. Marcia Cross was fantastic in this episode, especially in the scene at the beginning. And they chose a great way to end the episode. It will be interesting to see where they go with Bree discovering the note.

I’m one of those people that never laughs out loud while watching television (regardless of how loud I’m laughing in my head), but the scene with Gabby in back seat with the tobacco had me out of breath laughing. Her physical comedy is superb.

I also thought the pacing was off in the scene in the bedroom where Gabby attempts to alleviate Carlos’s guilt. It seemed as if Eva delivered her lines like she knew she had to only 73 seconds for the entire scene.

I guess it was a good premiere. The only thing I hated was the new guy, because if you have 4 women and a husband who covered up a man’s death (who you know will come back somehow), why, WHY do we need new people again? Specially when you have Vanessa Williams still looking for a purpose on this show. I don’t know who he is, I don’t care.

I will say that starting the final season with a similar note from the first, is a brilliant way to get the few fans the show still has excited for the end. I also hope that this means that the girls are the mistery, and the note is the mistery. Just like it should’ve always been.

As usual with this show, “wait and see” when it comes to good storylines, sucking or not sucking, creative or not creative season, Lynette needing to be punched or not (the answer is always “yes”), and so on.

I thought the season premiere was awesome. If this is a hint of things to come for the rest of the season, that will be terrific. I’ll post my full thoughts later. So hoping that this final season ends on a high note.

I thought it was pretty good and i loved the ending with Bree, hopefully everything comes to form this season.

(IMO) Vanessa Williams is awful on this show, the ridiculous writing she has, cringes me everytime, they need to get rid of her character soon.

I thought this episode was only fair…  but apparently I’m in the minority. The jokes just fell flat, and the story is ridiculous, since having to hide the murder/body in the first place seemed so unnecessary. Perhaps it’s good that this is the last season. It’s seen better days.

Loved it! Really strong start to a new season.

Lynette and Tom breaking up is heart wrenching to watch because they are the only couple on the lane who haven’t broken up (well until now) but it is giving both actors an opportunity to flex their dramatic muscle. Teri Hatcher was great in this episode, but the writers shouldn’t drag out the whole ‘guilt’ thing out for too long – could become boring. Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria were great as usual, while they need to give Vanessa Williams something to do! Why they are squandering her talents is beyond me.

I also loved the allusion to the first season at the end of the episode!

This is definitely a good start for the last season opener of the show. And yes, Vanessa Williams has been reduced again, this time to an even smaller role compared to Delaney and Sheridan in their succeeding seasons.

“Secrets I Never Want to Know”: A-

    Most Valuable Housewife (MVH): Longoria

Most Valuable Supporting Player (MVSP): Chivera

A very solid season premiere that benefitted from a tight focus (it wasn’t overly concerned with setting up new plot arcs for the final season as much as it was continuing/resolving threads from the finale), a focus on the girls as a cohesive unit (highlighting the ensemble nature of the show that the writers too often stray from), and a mix of dark comedy and real emotion.  I am very excited for the final season.

    Parts that worked great:

The opening was stellar.  Longoria was effective, Huffman uncharacteristically emotional, Hatcher uncharacteristically sensible, and Cross having the ice cold perfection we haven’t seen in years.

The hamster funeral scene featured great work from Hatcher.

The car shenanigans with Gaby and Bree were ridiculous but a wonderful comic sequence.

Gaby and Carlos’s absolution scene was very well acted.

The ending with the blackmail note was brilliant in every way, especially how it connected to Season One.

    Parts that didn’t work:

    Everything involving the new neighbor.

    Carlos’s confession scene fell flat.

The Lynette and Tom stuff just wasn’t written very strongly.

The pool scene and the guys’ conversation felt awkward and forced.

    Favorite Lines:

“Just don’t say God.  Her parents are atheists, lawyers, and major douches” – Teacher to Susan

“Well I’m sorry I am not handling accessory to murder as well as the rest of you” – Susan to Gaby

Detective: “Your aunt likes men’s cologne?” Bree: “She’s a lesbian!” Gaby: “She could have been married, but no she’s a lesbian”

“Relax honey, since we caught Bin Laden you can stroll on the plane anytime you want” – Gaby

^ THIS was hysterically funny, witty, and smart writing. Longoria’s delivery was also spot on. Her comedic timing is brilliant.
