This was a pretty good pilot. Essentially, if you’ve seen the trailer, there were no major surprises, but it was still pretty good. Some of the storylines are a bit “eh” (the kids subplots especially), but there were enough unanswered questions that have potential to keep me interested. Definitely going to stick around.

Giving the president the blood thinner was an interesting twist! It’s a delaying tactic but one that I think shows that Ellen is trying to think ahead and try to deal with this situation. It’s not something she can repeat but Ellen certainly displayed she is willing to mess with the presidents health!

I too really liked this episode. At first I was wondering how they would keep this show going for 24 episodes (if it does get picked up for a whole season), and I’m afraid I still don’t have the answer to that. Dylan McDermott was great in this episode. He totally outshined everyone, including Toni Collette. That being said, I still think this show will be cancelled by the end of the season. I don’t see how the hell they would be able to have this show go on for multiple seasons, hell, even 24 episodes.

    Grade for “Pilot”: B
    MVP: Dylan McDermott

I think it’s already picked up for a 15 episode season, thus the “limited run” and replacement by February, which I definitely like, especially with a difficult concept like this one.

I don’t get the reaction to this show.  Thought it was bland it best.   I will probably watch the second episode, but it was not a good pilot.  The tagline for the show should be… the dog lives!

I enjoyed the pilot…it kept my interest up throughout.   Although as noted above if you’ve seen the trailer for this you have basically covered most of the points of the first episode.   Agree that McDermott was the MVP here.   I’m glad this is a limited episode season because I am too a little confused as to how they plan to play this out over mutliple season, but maybe at leat the first will be well done.

I kinda enjoyed the pilot, but it was a ratings flop… so expect CBS to cancel this next week! LOL!

Really bad premiere ratings for this. Premiered to 7.48 million viewers, and a 1.8 18-49 share, which is really TERRIBLE numbers for CBS. It also came in 3rd place in its timeslot compared to other networks, behind The Blacklist (12.62 m viewers/3.8 share) and Castle (11.48 m viewers/2.2 share)

^ Ut oh, CBS will probably move Hostages to Fridays if the ratings continue to suck. They only have two other new dramas to plug in this season.

This show is pretty good, but Im just wondering where its going to go. I hope it delivers continuously because I love Toni Colette and Dylan McDermott as the leads.

Maybe I missed something or I’m just dumb, but what was the deal with Toni Colette cutting her finger? And where is the cut on the next day?

I think she was gonna try to cut off her finger, or at least damage it badly, so she wouldn’t have to operate the next day, but she couldn’t do it.

I liked the pilot. It had a good bit of exposition to sift through and the kids story seem a bit contrived, but Dylan McDermott was quite good and I like that Toni Collette’s character has a brain.

I chose this over The Blacklist based on the commercials. May watch Blacklist on demand, but I’ll stick with Hostages, unless the powerful lead in The Voice gives Blacklist buries this limited series.

I think she was gonna try to cut off her finger, or at least damage it badly, so she wouldn’t have to operate the next day, but she couldn’t do it.

My first thought was she wanted to cut her finger off. No finger, no operation. But it’s not that easy to cut a finger with a pair of scissors that small. Then I thought maybe she just wanted to give herself a wound, so she couldn’t operate, but it was just a little cut. Then I thought it was part of a greater plan, like changing blood samples or something elaborate that would be explained later. But what really bothered me is that there are so many scenes after where you can see her hands, and there’s not even a mark or a band-aid! Hell, there’s a even a close up on her hands, when she’s in the car, and nothing!

In the end I just assumed she was trying to cut her finger off… Silly idea!
