First new cast additions under new showrunners have been announced, and they’re big ones. Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott!

So if Clarkson wins another Guest Actress Emmy can we deem House of Cards the new Six Feet Under Emmy-wise? (obviously does not come close in quality-wise)

They’ll both probably get wasted just like Cicely Tyson, Joel Kinnaman, and most egregiously Neve Campbell were completely wasted. House of Cards is DONE, at least as far as Emmy wins are concerned. They made a statement with its total shut out this year! Even Ellen Burstyn couldn’t pull off a win over Margo Martindale’s 96-second, 65-word cameo!

From now on this show is good at the Emmys only as a filler nominee to take up space.

I knew they would drop this today. The release date screams Emmy thirst.

That is too late! Voters are not going to have time to watch it. Might not matter too much though.

When is the deadline for voting? I’m hoping this late release date will bode well for the show, but more specifically for Wright and Spacey.

Eligibility ends 5/31, and the hanging episodes rule is obviously a nonissue. Voting happens after that in the summer before nominations. Personally, I would have dropped the entire season today, but unfortunately the Underwoods aren’t quite the escapism from real-life that they used to be after this brutal election. May is certainly a gamble. Voters will either gloss by it mostly or reward it heavily for proximity. I don’t sense a middle ground either way really.

I think the late premiere will only hurt guest actors this year. Spacey and Wright are safe and the series is up there as well.

Wow, what a terrible teaser trailer. Recycled audio from Season 4. I’m almost offended.

Cannot WAIT until this show comes back though, have practically been having withdrawals since I finished Season 4 a few months back.

Netflix could be testing the waters to see if having a release date so close to the cut-off will be of benefit or an ill-fated exercise.

Very excited about it. House of Cards might not be very popular in this site, but I think it has had great season (ex the last one), and what might lack in subtlety, it gains in its being iconic.

Totally different shows in every respect, but “Grace & Frankie” always opens in May, and you see what little traction a behemoth like Netflix can get for its efforts (basically only Tomlin).

I always think about how poorly Arrested Development did at the Emmys after releasing May 26th, then it went on to PGA and SAG Ensemble nominations several months later, suggesting that people just needed more time to see it.
