Well, it’s back, finally. And Ken Tucker, suck ass, this was not one of the 5 worst series of last year. Not even close.

Compared to the first 2 episodes of last season, the show has gotten off to a stronger start. Gone, it seems, is the breaching of the 4th wall between Cheadle and viewer, and I don’t think it will be missed. The potential for so much high drama gave a glimpse last night. Julianne is just waiting for Jeannie the whistleblower to stray a millimeter out of line so she can fire her. ‘Mentoring’, my ass. And who knows if she isn’t targeting The Pod as well? It could be suggested Julianne set up the initial appointment with Pinkus, catching them flat footed, then send Tamara, Galweather’s newest consultant and arch-enemy of Marty in business school, with explicit instructions to sabotage the deal to make it easier to get rid of 4 thorns in Julianne’s grill instead of merely 1?January 21, 2013 at 9:57 am #266704
Also, it seems moreso than last year, that there’s a split that the producers and showrunner Mike Carnahan have decided to have Schwartz and Lawson provide the comedy, while Cheadle and Bell bring the drama. Being the woman who ended the merger and the near-riotous aftermath with Marty, there’s potential for some major acting fireworks from Bell in particular that not even Emmy can sweep under the rug. This is much improved from season 1 and no sign of a sophomore jinx…yet.January 21, 2013 at 4:52 pm #266705
I finally got around to watching the pilot episode this afternoon. It had some good performance, but I found the episode overall to be a hot mess. The writing and characters were way too over the top for my taste. I also didn’t like the talking to the camera, showy editing, etc. Does this tone down/get better? If all episodes are like this one, I’m not sure it’s something I can stick with.
