The new series marking the return to primetime for Reba McEntire premiered last night. What did everyone think?November 3, 2012 at 3:28 pm #265122
The series premiered with 8.90 million viewers, and a 2.2 rating in viewers 18-49. That is 1 million more viewers than the season premiere of Last Man Standing. Also, in both total viewers and young adults, Malibu Country scored ABC’s highest numbers in that timeslot in 5 years!
Awesome news for MC!November 3, 2012 at 3:29 pm #265123
I loved the premiere. I thought Lily Tomlin was hilarious, as was Jai Rodriguez. I loved Reba’s performance, and am interested to see where this series goes. Also, if it can keep its numbers and viewers anywhere close to that for the next 2 or 3 weeks, I see a full season order coming!November 3, 2012 at 3:37 pm #265124
I thought there was a thread for this show already, I commented on it but couldn’t find it now. But whatever, I watched last night and wanted to share my thoughts…
I like Reba a lot, her last show was one of my guilty pleasures and sometimes it wasn’t guilty at all as it was really, really funny. This time, it was pretty bad. I did like Reba in it, Sara Rue was the best part for me but it stopped there.
First of all the laugh track could not have sounded more fake, I thought that in the day of the single cam sitcom the live audience had gone away but there are still shows that use them very well like the TV Land shows. So I don’t know what happened here. It’s very distracting because it’s a really really bad and a very low volume laugh track.
Lily Tomlin was also nice to see, I’m still bothered by that horrible wig, her delivery is a good as ever but she looks like she’s in a Peter Boyle/Betty White situation, punchline and out.
And now for the worst part. Jai Rodriguez. What…the…FUCK…was that? Was it really necessary to go so over the top with this character? Did the ABC people really find this charicature funny? I can almost say…almost…that it was worse than the Jayma Mays looking kid on The Neighbors.
There weren’t that many funny parts here and I’m not too excited of the obvious way this show will go: Reba is country, L.A is not, confusion, culture clash, country is bad, L.A is not, redneck, dumb people, hot, tanned, blond people and so on.November 3, 2012 at 3:44 pm #265125
^ I didn’t think it was that bad. It definitely wasn’t as funny as her original sitcom, but it was good. It wasn’t like what the critics were saying where all the jokes were about Hollywood plastic surgery and the obvious jokes. I think it could definitely use some improvement, but I wouldn’t say it was “bad”. Not great, but no where near bad.November 3, 2012 at 4:02 pm #265126
I actually loved this. I loved Reba since the very beginning and still to this day have the DVDs and watch them periodically. I think it could use improvement but it is nice to see Reba back.
I am hoping it doesn’t fall victim to the Friday Death Slot but its numbers were strong and I would love to end my school week with this show every weekNovember 3, 2012 at 5:01 pm #265127
I kinda liked it. Very average sitcom. I don’t mind laugh track but I know GD posters hate it. Sara Rue was good. Lily Tomlin was very Betty Whitesque. The kids were okay. Jai Rodriguez was very stereotypical. And Reba had one lifting too many. Seriously, don’t women know when to stop with plastic surgery? She was almost Jokeresque.November 3, 2012 at 10:10 pm #265128
Yawn!!!!!November 4, 2012 at 9:40 am #265129
I don’t believe Reba has ever had plastic surgery. I think her age is finally starting to get to her. She is almost 60 years old.
Which reminds me, that’s probably why Lily Tomlin is wearing that wig. The producers want it to be known she playing Reba’s mother, even though her and Reba are not that far apart in age.November 10, 2012 at 10:43 am #265131
I thought the second episode was much better than the first. Jai Rodriguez is hilarious to me, and starting to become a standout on this show. Quick question: Are they trying to hide Sara Rue’s pregnancy on this show? Them trying to hide it isn’t as obvious as it was when, say, The Nanny did it, but it looks like they are with that giant red purse. Anyway, Reba is also really good on this show. I am thinking this will be a great show to end my week with every week.November 10, 2012 at 11:07 am #265132
Ratings for the second episode:
The second episode of Malibu Country earned a 1.6 18-49 rating, down .7 from last week. However, it maintained decent overall ratings, earning 7.2 million viewers, down just a little over 1 million viewers from its premiere.November 10, 2012 at 6:38 pm #265133
I don’t believe Reba has ever had plastic surgery.
You’re kidding me, right?November 10, 2012 at 8:02 pm #265134
All I can say is this. The show is bad, very bad. Sarah Rue is so miscast in this role and Lily Tomlin deserves much better than this. MUCH better than this.November 10, 2012 at 10:39 pm #265135

Are you kidding me? She may have taken some botox, but there is no evidence that Reba has EVER had plastic surgery. Botox? maybe Plastic surgery? No.
