The whole Brick thing just really isn’t working out. He’s beyond annoying and the fact that his voice has broken just makes him look like a funny little relative as opposed to the weird little brother. Also Patricia Heaton’s wig is horrendous.September 25, 2013 at 5:30 pm #303104
The Middle is the kind of show where it’s good, but if I miss an episode it’s no biggie and I wouldn’t watch it in syndication. It was an ok episode but I say that about a lot of it’s episodes these days.September 26, 2013 at 5:29 am #303105
I thought the premiere was strong. The overlapping dialogue in the car was terrific and performed by a company that is clicking on all cylinders going into its fifth season. I do agree that the character of Brick has grown a little problematic, so I hope they have a plan to push him in a different direction this year. And Lord help me, it’s about time to tone Sue down just a touch. But in all, this was cleverly plotted and structured and featured a nice moment with Frankie having to say all the things she wanted to say to Axl to Kenny instead. I hope they will still be able to keep Axl firmly in the mix, because more often than not, Charlie McDermott is the comedic MVP.September 26, 2013 at 7:16 am #303106
Great episode. Brick is always funny but the MVP had to be Axl.October 9, 2013 at 6:49 pm #303107
Am I the only one getting a little tired of reused storylines? This is like the 3rd or 4th time they’ve done the “parents visiting Brick’s principle” storyline. COctober 9, 2013 at 8:06 pm #303108
Whoops, sorry I keep forgetting to update this! I guess it’s just not popular enough and always gets bumped down in the message boards.
Three episodes have aired so far:
1. “The Drop Off” on September 25
2. “Change in the Air” on October 2
3. “The Potato” on October 9
I’ll be more current with this in the future!
I didn’t see “The Potato” yet, but I thoroughly enjoyed “The Drop Off” and “Change in the Air.” I really like the way they’re handling Axl’s going away to college. It would have been easy to see him either a) not go to school or b) do poorly and drop out or c) make a foolish mistake and get kicked out (a la Haley in Modern Family) but I think they’re doing exactly the right thing!

I think The Middle is such a great show! This season has had an interesting start, and it’s stuck to its funniness. However, i feel like the Axl storyline has been a little much in the third episode. Axl is very funny, but he should be at college and we should not have a full storyline about him. It just seems awkward. This could be an opportunity for them to really let Eden sher shine because she is who most critics tend to love.
I also really wish this show would get some recognition at the Emmy’s!

I liked the episode on the 9th but is there such a thing as too much Brick? cuz I’m starting to want less Brick centric episodes now.October 11, 2013 at 8:51 am #303112

Same here, his weirdness has worn off.[/quote]
With Malcolm in the Middle, Dewy was weird and endearing. Brick is now weird and annoying sometimes. Give him something better to do ABC!!!October 11, 2013 at 12:20 pm #303113
I don’t mind Brick’s weirdness, I just dislike that it is more often than not used in a school-related plot. They need to come up with more activities for him to do aside from going to school and reading at home.
Decent episode, though not as good as the first two. I like the concept of Sue having a job, that could be quite funny down the line. I also like the way they’re integrating Axl into the home life of the series, although I would love to see them focus on him at school too, making friends, etc. The writers don’t have to pick one or the other, they can manage to do both over a 22 episode season!

Episode: “The 100th”
Synopsis: Orson celebrates it’s 100th anniversary with a large parade, which all the Hecks attempt to participate in, with varying degrees of enthusiasm and success.\
Discuss, and happy one hundred episodes to The Middle!
