Back for another year of animated hijinx with The Simpsons renewed for a 27th and 28th season.

This time around, all six primary voice actors return, amidst Harry Shearer leaving the show. He has since returned with the same paycheque as the other six actors.

Guest actors for this season (new actors) include:

    Kristen Bell
    David Copperfield
    Lena Dunham
    Blake Anderson
    Nick Kroll
    Edward James Olmos
    Yo-Yo Ma

    Confirmed episode titles/plotlines:
“Every Man’s Dream”, The Simpsons season 27 premiere. Homer develops narcolepsy, but instead of returning home with his prescription medication, he goes home drunk. He and Marge go to a marriage counselor who insists on a trial separation, during of which Homer begins dating a twentysomething pharmacist (Lena Dunham). The other three Girls guest stars (Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, Allison Williams) also confirmed voices.
“Cue Detective”, Homer delves into the underground world of barbeques.
“Friend with Benefit”, Kristen Bell voices Lisa’s new friend Harper, whose family is rich. Lisa later becomes concerned, however, that Harper is too entitled.
“Gal of Constant Sorrow”, Lisa meets a drug-addicted singer.
“Puffless”, Patty and Selma quit smoking.
“Barthood”, a parody of Boyhood, which will centre around Bart.
“Halloween of Horror”, an actually canon Halloween episode that is NOT a Treehouse of Horror.
“Treehouse of Horror XXVI”, Kelsey Grammer reprises his Emmy-winning role of Sideshow Bob in the annual Halloween episode where he finally kills Bart. Additional segments involve Homer suddenly getting short-term memory and Bart, Lisa and Milhouse gaining superpowers due to radiation.

    Other episode titles:
    “Lisa with an ‘S'”
    “Paths of Glory”
    “The Girl Code”
    “Tennage Mutant Milk-fed Hurdles”
    “Much Apu About Something”
    “Love is in the N2-O2-Ar-CO2-Ne-He-CH4”
    “Lisa the Veteranian”
    “The Marge-ian Chronicles”
    “The Burns Cage”
“How Lisa Got Her Marge Back”

What do you guys think so far?

Here are the known pre-emption / repeat dates so far:
11/1 – World Series Game 5, “if necessary,” but Fox would not schedule a new episode to air on the slim chance that the World Series ends in four games

    12/20, 12/27 – repeats, during “Christmas Break”
1/24 – NFC Championship Game followed by The X-Files
    1/31 – Grease Live
2/7 – repeat, against the Super Bowl
2/28 – repeat, against the Oscars

An actress I am not fond of, Sofia Vergara, is going to have a voice in the next season of The Simpsons, as Bart’s highly attractive, or at least according to those freaks who are attracted to cartoons, teacher.

Andrew Rannells is going to lend his voice to The Simpsons this year, playing a character who is the lead in a performance of “Bad News Bears: The Musical” in which Lisa is also in.

The very idea that Bad News Bears is adapted into a musical in The Simpsons is really hilarious to me even though I haven’t even seen the episode yet.

The season premiere: “Every Man’s Dream”. Homer is diagnosed with Narcolepsy, but instead of returning home with his prescription medication, he returns home drunk. He and Marge visit a marriage counselor and have a trial separation, during which Homer begins dating a 20-something pharmacist, voiced by Lena Dunham

Then in the following week: “Cue Detective”. Scotty Boom, a Chew network super-chef, challenges Homer to a smoke-off. But when someone steals Homer’s secret weapon – a smoker he bought off a mysterious man at the BBQ shack – Lisa and Bart are on the case! Guest voices include Edward James Olmos, Alton Brown and Bobby Moynihan.

The season finale has officially been named “Orange is the New Yellow”.

Could this be the potential Orange is the New Black parody that was discussed in the previous The Simpsons GoldDerby thread? I hope so. So much comedic potential for this episode!

When is this show going to officially do a last season? It’s nice that it’s been on so long, but this is too much. And it’s not as witty anymore.

This has been asked over at NoHomers quite a bit.

My answer: either when (a) one of the “main six” dies (it would be disrespectful to replace the actor like that, in much the same way that they didn’t replace Marcia Wallace as Mrs. Krabappel when she died), (b) one of the three main men (Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer) decides to leave (it would be too hard to replace all of their characters – it’s far easier to replace the women, since they do fewer voices each), or (c) Fox finds something that would make it more money, both in commercials and merchandise.  As long as Lego has no problems charging $200 for a Simpsons house, I don’t see (c) happening any time soon.

Well, seeing has how it was renewed for a 27th and 28th season, not anytime soon.

I do feel that the eventual final episode of The Simpsons will be a momentous occasion, but the appropriate question is how? How do you end this? At this point, there’s so many stories, so many characters, so much that has been built right now that how can you find an ending to everything? Every character? Every loose end? And satisfy everyone.

IMO, the final Simpsons episode should be at least two hours long, feature a deluge of guest stars, and loads of characters that were on the show over the years and if it is a perfect ending, it will get a nomination (and possible win) for Best Writing in a Comedy Series and they should have the actors compete with the “real” actors and not in Voice-Over Performance. Maybe win Comedy Series? I am dreaming a bit here, but I do think that the eventual “final episode” will be legendary.

The Simpsons staff also say that they are aiming for 30 seasons as of right now. They didn’t say whether or not they would actually end it all after season 30, but they did say that they want to keep going until season 30.

I am not denying that the show isn’t as good as it once was, but damn it, I still love it! I’m going down with this ship. I also hate all the haters on The Simpsons’ Facebook page who constantly comment about how bad the show is. It’s really disheartening, especially since I think the show can still be funny when it has to be.

I beg to differ. I think its still brilliant, and I will watch it until it becomes unwatchable, and you can be difficult and say that its unwatchable right now, but its still funny and consistent, and while its not as good as it was before, it is still better than what Glee, Modern Family or The Big Bang Theory have become.

No need to cause trouble by coming in here and wishing for it to end. Some of us love this show, and don’t actually want it to end anytime soon.

Here are what are presumed to be this season’s 22 episodes, although they may have another one in mind for the season finale and/or one of these planned for the 2017 premiere:

    Every Man’s Dream
    ‘Cue Detective
    Puffless
    Treehouse of Horror XXVI
Halloween of Horror (unlike Treehouse episodes, this one is in the show’s “normal universe”)
    Lisa With an “S”
    Friend With Benefit
    Paths of Glory
    Barthood
    The Girl Code
    Teenage Mutant Milk-Caused Hurdles
    Much Apu About Something
    Gal of Constant Sorrow
Love is in the N2-O2-Ar-CO2-Ne-He-CH4 (Valentine’s Day episode)
    Lisa the Veterinarian
    The Marge-ian Chronicles
    The Burns Cage
How Lisa Got Her Marge Back
    Fland Canyon
    Simprovised
    To Courier With Love
    Orange is the New Yellow

Good choices. I do think that Al Jean said Orange is the New Yellow is the season finale and I think that Harry Shearer “scandal” has caused The Burns Cage to be at the second half, near the tail end of the episodes this year, since they probably had to write it once they confirmed he would return. So expect that the Shearer characters will make very little to no appearance in the first few episodes.

Took the words right out of my mouth (except I actually like Big Bang Theory but whatever).

No no, he recorded enough episodes for half of Season 27 before the scandal, so even if he did leave forever, he’d appear in the first half.
