In November, Lifetime will begin filming a screen version of Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful.

According to a casting notice on Backstage.com, the film will feature Tony winner Cicely Tyson and Vanessa Williams, who both starred in the recent, critically acclaimed Broadway production of the family drama.

Filming is scheduled for Nov. 4-30 in Atlanta, GA.

Lifetime describes the film as such: “A woman’s determination to go home one last time restores hope and faith to her family.”

An official announcement is expected shortly.

I will totally have to try and find them here in the ATL next month. I wished I lived in NYC when it was on Broadway just to see her. Glad they are making a film of it!

Even though it’s on Lifetime, I could totally see Cicely Tyson getting nominated for this.

If her performance is as radiant in the film as it was on stage, this will be extremely memorable! I was absolutely mesmerized by her when I saw the production.

Lifetime movies earn Emmy nominations frequently.

Maybe Vanessa Williams will get nominated and finally win the Emmy that she so richly deserves.

THANKFULLY, THIS IS A TV MOVIE..NOT A FEATURE FILM.

Nobody can touch Page’s magnificent performance in the 1985 film.

I saw the broadway production and i must say that IMO, Williams
and Gooding, jr. were both barely adequate and Miss Tyson
chewed up the scenery and spit it all over the audience….Subtle
is not in her acting vocabulary…although she won the TONY AWARD,
IMO, she wasnt nearly as overpowering as Page….on TV , she might
do better and get an Emmy also..

Tyson and Williams should win some Emmys for that. Hate to say ot but get Cuba Gooding Jr as well so he can get one as well.

Also hope that Condola Rashad gets invited to participate in this production. She already has a nice relationship with Lifetime, and she was Tony-nominated after all in a surprise bid over Vanessa Williams.

Does Vanessa Williams play daughter-in-law? That’s rather unthankful role, if you ask me. The best supporting part in 1985 film was the one played by Rebecca De Morney, bus colleague. This version might have different focus, though.

Never seen the original but I love Cicely so I’m looking forward to this.

Cicely is definitely a lock. She’s an Emmy favorite and like someone here already mentioned, Lifetime usually does a good job at (at least) getting acting nominations, (Woodard, Henson, Winger, Weaver, MaClaine, list goes on and on).

Can’t wait. Good that Tysons performance will be recorded for all to see.
