I’d actually say this season wasn’t win worthy but was only nomination worthy if only all the shows that are actually win worthy to me (Fleabag, Mom and Trial & Error mainly) didn’t have zero chance of winning. So for what will be nominated, I really hope this show wins again for yet another great bunch of episodes.

Me too, but I don’t think she’s even had enough material to warrant a nomination. It’s a shame, because with the right episode like “Convention” she could’ve really been competitive. Perhaps there’s something significant in storefor her in the last three episodes.

May 30, 2017 at 9:08 pm #1202106520I was thinking about Chlumsky earlier and forgot to comment. This year it doesn’t look like she’ll make my personal list, I absolutely love her but the material just isn’t there. I’m sure she’ll still be nominated because I really doubt the show takes any kind of hit in nominations but I’d be shocked if she wins unless she has a really great episode coming up. They really missed their opportunity to reward her the last two years, especially season 4 when she had “Convention” as a tape, she should have easily won.

Yeah, I have to agree. I have been disappointed in her lack of screentime. She doesn’t really have any storyline of her own going on at all and feels sort of tacked on because…she’s Amy? Conversely, Tony Hale has gotten maybe the most material he’s ever had this season.

I think elevating Jonah to a larger presence and having some of the other characters working for him made a great deal of sense. Dan on TV also makes sense, but I don’t think the execution has paid off as well as it could; why don’t they have him on CNN as a political commentator so that he can directly comment on the Washington goings-on that we’re seeing with Selina and Jonah? As for Amy, it stinks that she’s been sidelined, but I think they’re building toward something. They threw in the short scene about her wanting to work for Furlong for a reason, and I hope by the season’s end we see her with a more substantial role (at least for Season 7).

May 31, 2017 at 9:00 am #1202107052I think it just stands out a bit more with Amy than the rest of the ensemble since she is the only prominent female character aside from Selena, or at least has been in the past. Now, I’d say Catherine actually has more of a presence than Amy and while I like all the Catherine stuff she’s just not as funny as Amy at her best IMO.

She’s wrong, especially about Qatar — btw, I wrote a post about that episode praising how spot-on its commentary was, but even I couldn’t imagine how extremely current it would turn out. Qatar is all over the news this week, and that episode holds up to its goal in this new context extremely well!
ReplyCopy URLJune 6, 2017 at 9:34 pm #1202112948“Chicklet” is mediocre and one of the bottom five episodes of the series, but “Qatar” is top-tier ‘Veep’.
ReplyCopy URLJune 11, 2017 at 9:24 pm #1202117769I really liked this episode. The relationship between Selina and Gary has been a bit inconsistent since last year, I really loved that he finally got upset with her. Jean Smart was great too, so was Gary’s dad, not sure who that actor is, he looks familiar. This is probably the best episode Chlumsky has had, which is disappointing. She’ll be nominated, but there’s no way she’s winning.

Are they secretly submitting Smart and wanted to keep it a surprise (ala Ann Dowd in The Leftovers)?
