It should be a packed category this year, some awesome songs I heard on T.V. this year include…

“Goodnight, My Friend” – Galavant [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jx5_DGo_sjI]
“Hopin’ for a Dream” – The Simpsons [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwmvk1yIRxU]
    “Money for Beer” – Portlandia
“You’re Not the Worst Thing Ever” – Galavant [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLYiyK7uqUE]
    “Moving Pictures” – 87th Academy Awards [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMJVfwqvD4E]
“Ode to Laugh Tracks” – Saturday Night Live: The 40th Anniversary Special [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBYA0WOmGhs]

And this has no shot in hell, but…

    “I’m Having a Crisis” – American Dad! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44YKX24DRNY]

What are you liking this year?

    DISCUSS.

    I’d add:

    “Conqueror” from Empire — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-WWU696CYE

    “Galavant” from Galavant — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWnDwM0RSX4

“Good Enough” from Empire — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCDMJyKPiLo

    “You’re So Beautiful” from Empire — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krlxHu6pAA0

I think it’ll come down to “Moving Pictures” vs. whatever songs Galavant and Empire’s teams submit.

If “Moving Pictures” wins the Emmy Kristen Anderson-Lopez will only be a Tony away from EGOT status.

“Empire” needs to focus on “No Apologies”. It’s their “Let Me Be Your Star”.

I’d actually LOVE this (the first thing in decades that Adam Sandler has done that I’ve liked) – but the music isn’t original – I believe the music is the exact same as Simply the Best (and there is a brief bit of Alive and Kicking) so I don’t think its eligible

I know that Garfunkel and Oates is little seen and many of the songs are ineligible but I think one song that might be eligible is Rainbow Connection. The song is great and if eligible I would think it should be considered. But basically Empire should dominate because the songs on the show are surprinsingly great and my favourite so far is You’re So Beautiful (both versions). Then there’s Galavant which has some great songs but my opnion of the best is Love is Strange. I really love that tv shows involving a lot of original music is great and really makes this category not barren.

Also two songs from Bob’s Burgers worth mentioning are Work Hard of Die Trying, Girl and Late Afternoon in the Garden of Bob and Louise

There will be a number of entries from Empire, I’m sure.

Well regardless, I am going to be pushing for The Simpsons this year. Because they song “Hopin’ for a Dream” from the episode “Covercraft” is really, really good!

This one will be Galavant vs Empire vs the Oscars with maybe the Simposns song and also Glee had a great song “Rise” written by Darren Criss for the show so that could be a contender.

“What Might Have Been” – Phineas and Ferb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dKzoYpTTAk

“Potatoes and Molasses” – Over the Garden Wall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3-eRt_c-d0

Assuming the show at the end of the episode is considered one song, I’d suggest “Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl” from the Bob’s Burgers episode of the same name.

As for “Hopin’ for a Dream,” keep in mind that Alf Clausen didn’t write it; the music was by Matthew Sweet (and lyrics by Sweet and episode writer Matt Selman), who was also Apu’s singing voice in that episode.

“Conqueror” is a reworking of a song from Estelle’s “True Romance” album, so that’s ineligible.

“Moving Pictures” looks like the song to beat here. Hope that “Empire” can get multiple submissions in the category to boost their nod numbers, though between the songs that have garnered the most attention so far (“You’re So Beautiful”/”No Apologies”/”Drip Drop”), picking one to focus on might be the better option. There’s still time for something else to come along too.

If “SNL” monologue songs count (and they do), then Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake’s opener at the “SNL 40” tribute is fair game as well.

Hugh Jackman’s Tonys opener wasn’t an original song.

Maybe a song from “Nashville” again?
