Does Jason Katims have a chance at getting nominated for writing the series finale last night? I thought it was an excellent (and heartbreaking) hour of television.

What do you think? I know he has been nominated for Friday Night Lights before.

No. They don’t care about the show enough for it to suddenly be a blip now when there are more writing contenders than ever before. It doesn’t have the mass critical prestige of FNL, so there’s nothing to be gained by suddenly changing their tune; any Emmy voters who love Parenthood are and will remain a tiny minority..

I sincerely hope so but I I’m not holdingmy breath.

The amount of tears I’ve shed for that show over the years…let’s just say my tearducts have been active and I’ve used lots of kleenex.

WOW what an incredible ending to a beautiful, emotionally resonating show. Excellent way to wrap everyone’s story up. I’ll miss the Braverman’s so much. Farewell, Parenthood!

Those last 15 minutes were so beautiful. It is a shame how this show was always overlooked. At least Monica Potter got that Globe nod for her cancer storyline, something the Emmy’s shamelessly overlooked.

I am hoping it can make it in this category. We’ve seen other shows pop up here that were overlooked like Buffy, Battlestar and even FNL.

I would love this so much. Parenthood has been one of the most underrated shows in the past few years and it would be amazing if they got this as a farewell. Plus the reception of the series finale has been great and Jason Katims has done this hat trick before. I really hope this happens.

The difference between Parenthood and FNL is that the latter has always had a higher profile at the Emmys. The former has only gotten ONE nomination thus far, in 2012 for Jason Ritter in Guest Actor. FNL was nominated for Directing (Peter Berg, “Pilot”) and Casting in its first year and was on the top 10 lists for Series, Lead Actor (Kyle Chandler), and Lead Actress (Connie Britton). The next year it got nominated for Casting and, despite the strike causing it to go off the air early and a critically maligned season, it still made the top 10 lists again for both Series and Lead Actor (Chandler). The third year it got nominated for Casting.

And finally, in its fourth year it broke into Lead Actor and Lead Actress for Chandler and Britton, as well as receiving a Writing nom (Rolin Jones, “The Son”). All of this is to say that FNL had small, but consistent support through the years, which Parenthood has not had. That support and momentum led to a Series nomination for its final season, an incredible rarity since voters usually don’t give a show its first Series nom at the end. In addition, FNL got the aforementioned writing nomination for Katims, who upset Mad Men and Matthew Weiner for the first time. Parenthood’s best chance to break through was for Monica Potter in the fourth season, ironically the same year FNL broke into the major Emmy categories, and it failed. I don’t think Parenthood can pull a Hail Mary for a nomination this late.

I’ve never been much of a fan. Always came off like a watered-down FNL minus football. And it wasted a lot of its talented cast. I did consistently watch, and I thought the finale was as good as this series could have delivered. I wouldn’t mind a writing nod, It wont’t get one of course. FNL was able to break through due to the perfect combination of some slots being wide open, DirectTV going hard with its campaign and “The Son” being one of the most acclaimed, buzzed about episodes of TV that season. It was always an acclaimed show that stayed in the media. Parenthood has completely disappeared from the radar. It’s not comparable to The Wire or ‘Battlestar’ either.

Parenthood has been sooo underrated over the years.
Thanks to Mr. Katims it wast the last great TV family drama.
Monica Potter should have won every kind of award for season 4 but that year Parenthood should have been nodded for drama series too.
Also many performers apart from Potter during the show run deserved attention, Krause and Whitman espscially, but also Dax Shepard and CHristensen.
The only one I never felt too much interest was Lauren Graham character, she’s a great actress but a bit wasted here.
Can’t believe it never got an ensemble nomination at SAG, especially when most shows nominated there are not even true ensemble..
Thanks once again to NBC. in other networks Parenthood would have not lasted six seasons.

Agree with you 100%. S4 was by far and away its best season. Potter and Krause should have been nominated, the show should have gotten into series, and it should have recieved a writing nom (not just for season 4, but for every season the dialouge on that show is amazing)
