The reverse has been discussed over and over(great performances in bad shows) but I don’t remember the bad actors from great shows as a topic title. If there was, let me know.

What are the limited actors that stand out even more because they are surrounded by a talented cast/quality show?

Laverne Cox-OITNB: The girl can’t act for the love of god. I don’t remember when was the last time I’ve seen an actor struggle (and fail) so much in front of camera while just trying to move her facial lines. Maybe the botox is also to blame there but nonetheless her limited range puts me off in every dramatic scene she’s supposed to be the center of and makes her stand out in a show full of natural actors. Her Emmy and CC noms are proof that people are so easily swayed by narratives.

Sibel Kekilli- Game of Thrones: was okay at the start, but started to get phony and cringey as it went on. The accent was the biggest problem.

    Adrian Grenier-Entourage: No range.

    Cory Monteith-Glee: See above.

Aimee Teegarden- Friday Night Lights: Shallow.

Michelle Dockery-Downton Abbey: Probably an unpopular opinion but the performance was just TOO stiff to a point that it was laughable. s4e1, the episode that she mourned, was the first time I appreciated her since that was the first time her being a emotionless cold hearted woman made sense.

Jessica Paré in Mad Men. It’s also the writers’ fault, probably, but she was the only uninteresting Mad Men character between the important ones.

I thought Laverne Cox was one of the best parts of OINTB. Did you see season 4? she was amazing and I think she will win for guest actress.

Cox is an amateur at best. The PC narrative helps her book jobs because trans visibility is such a hot topic right now concerning LGBT.

The guy who plays Shades in Marvel’s Luke Cage. Ugh.

Jeremy Allen White’s performance on Shameless is .. Dull.

Christian Slater in Mr. Robot. Couldn’t even finish season 2. He’s downright annoying.

This is hard. Most shows currently airing that I watch don’t have a particularly weak performance in the main cast (either all on the same strong level, or the ensemble isn’t that good e.g. OJ outside of Paulson/Vance/Lane/Brown), so most of these are tertiary characters.

    Margaret Qualley- The Leftovers
    Simon Quarterman- Westworld
    Christian Slater- Mr Robot
    Emilia Clarke- Game of Thrones
    Sky Van Vliet- American Crime

^ I actually liked Jessica Pare in Mad Men although her character was limited.

The West Wing: Joshua Malina. I never found him particularly strong or convincing in any scene.

Code Black: In a cast headed by Marcia Gay Harden and more recently, Rob Lowe it is easy for your acting to look green and Harry Ford does exactly that.

Parks & Rec: Aubrey Plaza. This may not be a popular opinion, but I found Aubrey to be a limited actress at best and most of her subsequent film roles (Dirty Grandpa, Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates) haven’t swayed me any yet.

and probably the ultimate Tracy Morgan in 30 Rock. He just always seemed to be phoning it in every scene, as if he wasn’t really committed to actually acting.

Not to mention, she was simply devastating in ‘Lesbian Request Denied’ and deserved both of her nominations at the critics choice and Emmy (which she actually should have won). She’s coming back for the 4th season though.
