As I do every year, I’m asking for your help in completing
my Emmy ballot. The FYC DVDs and boxes are beginning to pile up, and I
have a limited time to begin the process of reviewing every legitimate
contender. So here’s the request that I’m making to my Goldderby friends:
Please give me the name of the ONE script that you feel deserves the Emmy for
Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
Another request: please don’t give me a laundry list of 3 or 5 or 10
scripts. I’m not looking for scripts that you liked. I’m looking
for passion. I’m looking for a script that, when the envelope is opened,
you’ll say “Please win.”
To those of you who’ve helped me before, thank you. I’ve done my best to
respectfully consider your suggestions and turn in the most credible ballot I
can. To Goldderby newbies, please know that this is a legit request, and
I look forward to getting some new points of view. Have at it. And
thanks.May 11, 2015 at 1:03 pm #348249
The Good Wife – Oppo ResearchMay 11, 2015 at 1:07 pm #348250
March 8, 1983 – The AmericansMay 11, 2015 at 1:09 pm #348251
I second that suggestion for The Good Wife’s Oppo Research.May 11, 2015 at 1:12 pm #348252
Third for “Oppo Research”.
I’ll come back and edit if Mad Men‘s finale is wonderful, but “Oppo Research” immediately springs to mind thinking of drama writing this year.May 11, 2015 at 1:16 pm #348253
“Fight” (Masters of Sex)
It is basically MoS‘ “The Suitcase”.May 11, 2015 at 1:19 pm #348254
Fourth Oppo Research! But since that is heavily recommended, I would also say “Boston” from The Newsroom. It depends on how you feel about Aaron Sorkin but I thought that was one hell of a thrilling 50 minutes. And Daniels has a wonderful speech at the end. I also recommend practically any episode of The Affair.May 11, 2015 at 1:32 pm #348255
“A Moorland Holiday”- Downton AbbeyMay 11, 2015 at 1:36 pm #348256
I’m glad that everyone else mentioned Oppo Research, so I wouldn’t have to!
Now that it’s a drama, I’ll recommend the Orange is the New Black episode, “You Also Have Pizza”. Possibly the greatest telling of a backstory and incorporation of it into an episode. There are other great ones in the season, and I don’t know what they submitted, but this was my personal highlight.

Orange is the New Black-“We Have Manners, We’re Polite”
The Americans-“March 8, 1983” or Stingers
The Good Wife-I will echo Oppo Research
I personally think drama writing is one of the weaker categories this yearMarcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantMay 11, 2015 at 1:41 pm #348259
“Fight”, Masters of Sex.
Also, I know this is off topic, but January Jones was excellent last night in “The Milk and Honey Route”, and she deserves to be nominated. You have to send her name to the Academy for consideration.May 11, 2015 at 2:02 pm #348260
Still need to catch up on Rectify’s second season, but oh well, this one is simply excellent :
