As I do every year, I need the help of my GoldDerby pals in this year’s Emmy voting. As an Emmy voter in the Writers Branch, I am overwhelmed each May with screeners from comedy shows that I haven’t had time to watch this season. I’m asking you to offer the ONE comedy script that you would cheer if it got a nod on nomination day. Please don’t give me a list of two or three scripts — I’m looking for help on the ONE about which you feel most passionate. As always, thank you all in advance for your help on this — my goal is to submit the most responsible ballot I can, and I couldn’t do it without you. Thanks.

“Elizah” from Transparent, written by Ethan Kuperberg.May 18, 2017 at 11:13 am #1202096382
“B.A.N”, written by Donald Glover (Atlanta)May 18, 2017 at 11:22 am #1202096391
“Episode 1”- Fleabag. Hilarious whilst setting up brilliantly for the darker tone of later in the season.May 18, 2017 at 11:31 am #1202096401
I’m sure I sound like a broke record at this point, but anything from “Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street,” most notably the series finale, “Gortimer vs. the End.”May 18, 2017 at 11:33 am #1202096402
Someone already mentioned Fleabag so I will go with:
Master of None – “The Thief”May 18, 2017 at 11:33 am #1202096403
“Quinces” – One Day at a Time, written by Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike RoyceMay 18, 2017 at 11:34 am #1202096405
Whatever episode Bojack Horseman submits. OR, if Black-ish submits “LEMONS” then that one please!
I liked the first episode of Silicon Valley, but haven’t seen the rest of the season, and I have not had time to binge Master of None just yet. It’s frustrating because I don’t know what episodes are being submitted because I haven’t seen the nominating ballot yet. If I saw what the nominating ballot looked like, it would be so much easier for me to recommend a specific episode. 🙁May 18, 2017 at 11:37 am #1202096410
“Chapter I” – Dear White People
Funniest half hour of TV this year. The Scandal parody is GOLD!May 18, 2017 at 11:38 am #1202096412
Edit: @ Nick Spake
Is that a real show? Sounds like you just made that up.May 18, 2017 at 11:55 am #1202096423
Season 6 Episode 5

I’m gonna do the same The I did with drama. Sorry. I will go through all of my favorites and put the best one in the final paragraph. I know it’s cheating but whatever.
Black-is just has had several standout scripts, but “LEMONS” is by far the best. “Being Bo-Racial” was also great but “LEMONS” steals the show.
Atlanta had a few episodes that had great scripts, specifically “B.A.N.” and “Value”. I would go with “B.A.N.”.
Insecure was also a great show, and the finale “Broken as Fuck”, had a great script.
Girls had a phenomenal season. The writing was off the charts good, but the standout by far was “American Bitch”.
“The Last Sunday Funday” from You’re the worst was important, hilarious, sad, and so much fun. Definatley a nomination worthy script.
“Fish Out of Water” from BoJack Horseman was on another level. No explanation needed. (Almost) No dialogue at all but the script is still Emmy worthy.
“A cricket and Hedge made of Gold” from Mom was so good and the script was great. It was hilarious and devestating at the same time. I cried and laughed for the whole episode.
One Day at a Time is so good. The writing is great. The best scripts were “Sex Talk” and “Quinces”. It’s a tough pick, but I’d go with “Sex Talk”.
“Michael’s Gambit” from The good Place had a hillarious, unexpected, and amazing twist. It definitely should be a writing contender.
“Chapter X” from Dear White People had a massive pay off. It was hilarious. The dialogue was so funny. Great script.
“Chapter 54” from Jane the Virgin was so tragic yet the episode as a whole was stuffed in a good way with great and hilarious plot.
“Only Women Bleed” from Better Things was so good. Serious and hilarious. Great dialogue. Great everything
“Thanksgiving” from Master of None was on another level. The structure, plot, dialogue, and everything else made for a great script.
“The House of Uncanny Truths” from Search Party” had a script that was layered with important themes, shocking twist, tension, hilarious moments and more.
“War is Hell” from Great News was just so funny.
“Requiem of a slut” from shamless was one of the best hours of TV of 2016. The script was sort of perfect.
So in the end my #1 would be a fight between “Thanksgiving” from Master of None, “Requiem of a slut” from Shameless, “LEMONS” from Black-ish, “American Bitch” from Girls, and “Fish Out of Water” from BoJack Horseman. It’s such a tough decision. I don’t know if I can decide, but for now I’m going to go with…
“American Bitch” from Girls. Dunham’s commentary was striking and the character portrayed by Rhys was so well written. I had no idea what he was going to do next but everything made so much sense. The episode was so packed and stunning. Everything was basically perfect.May 18, 2017 at 12:10 pm #1202096435
Any submitted episode of Fleabag. It is the best comedy of 2016.
