It seems this year at the Emmys, politicaly-themed programs is dominating the nominees. It appears that the Emmy Awards have an obession with show that revolve around politics and government (The West Wing, 24, ect).

Is there year have more nominees for political shows from a variety of progams? Obviously, in The West Wing years, many nominees came from a single policitcal program. I’ve counted at least 7 programs that are centered around politics. And one could argue, Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey are political in nature.

    Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep)
    Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation)
    Kevin Spacey (House of Cards)
    Robin Wright (House of Cards)
    Kerry Washington (Scandals)
    Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom)
    Tony Hall (Veep)
    Anna Chlumsky (Veep)
    Damien Lewis (Homeland)
    Claire Danes (Homeland)
    Mandy Patinkin (Homeland)
    Sigourney Weaver (Political Animal)
    Ellen Burstyn (Politcal Animal)

In the case of some dramas (some, not all), politics = snob appeal.
