POLL: AHMED OR TURTURRO
Riz Ahmed would sooner get my vote for 'The Night Of'

Time for round three. The leads of The Night Of have been nominated together at SAG and the Golden Globes. Almost everyone expects both to be nominated. If that happens, are they doomed for vote-splitting perhaps like Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon in the Feud poll or is there more hope that one can overcome that by taking most of the votes for this show, like Reese Witherspoon over Nicole Kidman in the Big Little Lies poll? Please vote even if you did not finish the show because that should make this a better simulation of the Emmys.

I would personally go with Tuturro. They are both great but Tuturro created such a real person that I felt like I knew. It’s hard to explain but there was something about his performance that just felt… I don’t know… above. My top pick is either Tuturro or Ceesay.

This is a tricky one, but I suspect that we will all go for Riz Ahmed for the same reason that the Emmys went with Tatiana Maslany over Viola Davis and Rami Malek over Kevin Spacey. Ahmed did not get to do the classic awards showboating that John Turturro got to do in the finale, but we got a discovery and a transformation with him. Turturro already has an Emmy and we have known that he is a good actor for at least twenty-two years, as that was when he got his first Globe and SAG nominations (for film). Plus he is not even in the first hour of The Night Of, adding to the David and Goliath narrative. It is making me vote Ahmed, even though I thought that the difference in brilliance between the two was negligible.

I’m going with Riz Ahmed by just the slightest margin, I really love both performances though and would be happy to see either win.

Ahmed easily. Anyone who didn’t sympathise and empathise with Nas during every second of “The Beach” is trash and has no soul. He was great throughout…I just didn’t connect with Turturro even though he did some brilliant things towards the end.

    A perfect point.
Although I prefer Turturro’s performance if I were to vote anywhere I would go for Riz Ahmed

Turturro, though Jeannie Berlin stole the whole show for me.

Easy one for Riz Ahmed in a revelatory, transformative performance. He’s winning an Oscar someday.

I’m suprised how much Riz is winning by. But I suspect we have a different voter base than the academy.

Both are great, equally great, but Riz is a rising star and got a great year in both movie and tv, he’ll win that Emmy.

I still think De Niro will win, but this poll makes me much more confident about Ahmed. Tuturro would have easily won on the preferential ballot.

I would have gone with Robert De Niro under that system.

My heart says one thing and my head says another! But any of them winning would make me happy.

Riz Ahmed was the best thing about “The Night Of” by a longshot, though I really wasn’t much of a fan. Turturro was fine but no better than I’d seen from him in other projects.

I voted for Ahmed and they are both giving some of the best performances of the season but let’s be honest: it’s also (at least for me) because I felt much closer and more sympathetic with Riz’s character than with Turturro’s. Maybe an older voter wouldn’t feel that way.
