The 3rd season premiere was gory as fuck, yet it was the best episode of the show so far (however, being really honest, I didn’t enjoy the first two seasons).

Okay, I have a major problem with this episode and animation in general. Susan Sarandon. Don’t get me wrong, she was great. She was the MVP of the episode in my opinion. I could easily see her getting a voice over nomination. She was great. But why was she cast? I can’t stand how animation consistently cast white actors in Asian roles. If you are going to hire a white actor, why even give the character an Asian name? The same goes for Alison Brie in BoJack Horseman. She’s great, but why did they cast her in a Vietnamese role. Same with the entire cast of Kubo. It’s one thing to have the animals voiced by white characters, but to have the lead Japanese character voiced by an unknown white kid is so annoying. I don;’t get why Hollywood thinks its okay to do this in animation.

Anyways, it was a decent episode. This season hasn’t been amazing for me. I thought the premiere was good but not the best episode the show has done. I am disappointed by this season so far. It’s still great but it has been better in my opinion. It isn’t as smart and crazy as its used to be. I give this episode a solid B.

Last night’s episode was one of my favorites of the series so far. Loved the pickle Rick stuff, I know last week I was complaining the show had become to action oriented, but tonight it’s action scenes were really great. I loved the family therapy stuff too. I get what Hunter is saying about casting white people in Asian roles, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal since it’s animation and it’s not like these characters would necessarily sound different or have an accent or anything, but that’s a topic I don’t wanna get into on a rick and morty thread.

This episode didn’t feel like an A to me. Rick and Morty is a bit like Archer in the sense that an average week of it is still better than plenty of other shows out there, but I feel a difference compared to its previous self. I’d give this week a B to B+

I’ve been feeling what Hunter posted earlier about this season: it’s great, but the show has been better. I’m interested to see what the rest of you thought, and where the season ends up overall.

Finally. A great episode. Best of the season so far. I loved it. It was funny, smart, deep, and surpising. This’ll be a classic Rick and Morty episode. Roiland is so great as the voice.

    My grade: A

What a great night for TV

I preferred last week to it, but the standard for this show is so high that I don’t think is possible we will watch a bad episode.

This week might actually be my favourite episode since The Rickshank Redemption. I’ve enjoyed the season so far, but this felt more like previous seasons to me, if anyone else gets that?

In terms of Emmys, I doubt Rick and Morty can break through given how conservative the animation branch is (see BoJack Horseman), but so far what do people think their submission should be?

In the past they’ve gone with Rick Potion No. 9 and Total Rickall. The latter is my favourite episode of the series so far and I think was their best shot, but maybe they’ve picked up a bigger audience during a 2 year hiatus (even though I’m not confident in their chances of getting nominated).

Maybe I’ll jinx myself here, but I already feel like they’ll end up choosing either Rickshank Redemption or Pickle Rick.

I thought this was another great week, apart from Jerry being absent yet again  (seriously, I understand the divorce plotline causes restrictions on how the characters can interact, but I miss the guy, especially after he just had such a great episode).

I’m hoping that the season as a whole will look better once it’s all aired, but I’m cautiously optimistic that it’s turning around

I hope the rest of the season has episodes which involve the whole family acting as an ensemble like last season’s Total Rickall. Those are my favorite episodes.

I also hope we get more episodes that treats less like an invincible superhero.

Fun episode. I am also missing the family dynamic. This season isn’t as good as the last 2. I’ll give this a B
