In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news, Oh said, “Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go. It’s such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Cristina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the Grey’s writers to think of why she’s going to go.”
Series creator Shonda Rhimes, meanwhile, tells the THR that Cristina will get “the exit she deserves.”August 13, 2013 at 3:12 pm #294237
I really think this is great news for Sandra, which is an incredibly tallented actress. It’s past time to abandone this show, it became bad years ago. I just don’t want to see another character getting killed, I really loved Cristina Yang.August 13, 2013 at 3:13 pm #294238
Emmy votes, let’s give an Emmy for Sandra Oh. Last chance.August 13, 2013 at 3:19 pm #294239
Maybe this means Grey’s will finally end. It hasn’t been good since Heigl and TR Knight left.Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantAugust 13, 2013 at 3:29 pm #294241
^This. I don’t watch the show, but I heard that she was the only reason why people still watched the show. She was like the Jon Cryer of Grey’s Anatomy.August 13, 2013 at 3:34 pm #294242

You’re right. It’s been great.
Never liked those two characters. [/quote]
Come on. The season after they left was the year of the hospital merger and then a bunch of new characters were introduced, none of which can compare to George or Izzie and the dynamic they brought to the show. I watched all the way through the end of S8 (don’t ask why… habit I suppose) and none of S6-8 compares to vintage Grey’s circa S2/3 or even parts of 4 and 5.
When Shonda decided to kill off Lexie and keep shrill and annoying April Kepner I was out.
Don’t even get me started on the musical episode.August 13, 2013 at 3:47 pm #294244
After the plain crash the show became a joke to me. Actually, no. After the musical episode, it became a joke. The plain crash just make things worse. I still watch the show though, only because of the Meredith and Cristina dynamic. I really really loved Cristina Yang, and with her being gone, I’m totally leaving this show. I do hope it ends… 9 years, and more than 10 deaths. C’mon. Joke.August 13, 2013 at 3:52 pm #294245
I agree this show is done for. Chandra Wilson is the only good actor left on this show, and she can’t carry the show on her own. Chandra needs to join Oh and get the hell off that show. And with Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey possibly leaving soon, I don’t see this show surviving another 2 years.August 13, 2013 at 4:11 pm #294246
Good for Sandra. Grey’s hasn’t been good or great for years and Oh has been wasted. Best of luck to her.August 13, 2013 at 4:12 pm #294247
She really does deserve an Emmy, but no way does the show deserve to benefit off her getting one. She’s been better than this show for a long time, and I hope she comes back to TV soon.August 13, 2013 at 4:42 pm #294248
Sandra Oh has consistently been one of the best things about this show, and has never given a poor or sloppy performance. She has been handed one heavy story after another, so this break is surely earned.
With that said, this is really bad news for Grey’s Anatomy, and her exit can only be bad. It will leave a gaping hole that will not be filled by anybody. I believe that Grey’s will end up running no more than 12 or 13 seasons.August 13, 2013 at 4:43 pm #294249
Next stop: Scandal cameo.August 13, 2013 at 4:44 pm #294250
Finally. She was great in early seasons, and one consistently good thing about later seasons, but her storylines got ridiculous, the show became too soapy and event-episode-driven, so she deserves a better show now.
