I gave up on Scandal mid-way through last season (after Olivia’s ridiculous kidnapping plot) because the show just made absolutely no sense anymore. I really, thoroughly enjoyed it for the first 3 seasons, but Season 4, especially the back half, was an absolute mess.

I’ve heard very good things about a slightly re-tooled Season 5, with last night’s episode being declared by critics to be among the series’ best.

Has anyone been watching? Should I tune back in?

Definitely. The season premiere was weak but the rest have been up there with Scandal’s best. It’s become great to watch again and every week leaves you thinking about the next. Also the whole cast (particularly Washington and Young) are on top form.

NO. if you want to watch the Fitz and Olivia love story for 5 episodes straight, i guess yes. But if you’re looking for the old Scandal with Olivia working on cases, etc… No.

I’m just over the entire Fitz and Olivia crap! They’re together now, but you know it wnt be for long. Wash, Rinse. Repeat. Same story

I haven’t watched the most recent epuisode yet, so if it actually is one of the best of the series then I’ll be excited. But based on the rest of the season, eh, not really. If you’ve managed to get away from it without getting sucked back in I wouldn’t risk it. Yea, I guess so far this season has been a slight step up from the sheer stupidity and frustration that was the last 3rd of season 4, but that’s not saying much, and it’s still a shadow of what made it a pop culture phenomenon in season 1 and 2 (and even parts of 3, basically any scene involving Mellie). Olitz are still more annoying than anything on TV and Fitz is still the worst character I’ve ever felt I’m supposed to root for. But yea Bellamy Young and Kerry Washington are still managing to pull themselves up from the dredges of some of the storylines, so i guess that’s something. I’m stuck with this show until the bitter end, so if you’ve managed to get away from tit I’d stay away.

UPDATE: Just watched the most recent episode. Run. Run away while you still can.

I’ve thought it was good this season because it has left behind the B613 storyline and has actually delivered some good surprises and shaken up the dynamic. I’m definitely not a Fitz and Olivia fan but they haven’t really bothered me together as much as before.

I agree with the “Run Away from it like it’s wearing a hockey mask and carrying a machete” crowd. Dear goodness this show is pretty much a dumpster fire. B613 to me completely ruined this show. Yes the Olivia/Fitz stuff has gotten old very quick and the way they are dealing with it now is ridiculous. I’m basically hate watching it now.

I think that Bellamy Young should get nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama.  She has been delivering knockout performances this season.

If nominated, then her Emmy submission should be last night’s epiosde.  The scene where she argues with Fitz is what could seal the win.
