Since Seinfeld’s first season was only 5 episodes, it could not compete in the comedy categories. It scored one nomination, for Multi-Cam editing in a Miniseries/Special.

Why was it not nominated in any of the major categories? Only 2 episodes aired in the eligibility period, so was it considered a 25 minute TV film? I guess no one knew back then what the show would become.

Seinfeld was not a big thing then.

It wasn’t really that great in its first season, either. Its pacing was generally a lot slower, and the characters were stilll developing their personalities and dynamics. I think it wasn’t until Season 2 (thanks to “The Chinese Restaurant” in particular) that the show really showed people just what it could do, creatively.

I actually think that the early Seinfeld episode were gems. They were different back then, but I still liked them. Who would’ve ever thought watching those original five that that would become one of the greatest sitcoms of all time.
