I’ve been meaning to get into a new show. I miss having something to binge, and January is a bit of a slow period in terms of new shows to watch (minus Baskets tomorrow, can’t wait for that one!)

Is Shameless worth getting into? It seems like something I would like (I typically like dark, gritty comedies) ala Weeds, Transparent, Louie, Girls, etc.

    Opinions welcome!

Yes, binge away. It’s one of my favorite shows of all time. If you love family dramas you’ll eat this up. Every episode has its share of dark comedic moments, but it’s mostly a drama. The cast is outstanding especially Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy.

Although it may not be the best television show on the air right now, it is definitely my favorite.

If you like family dramas, this is the one to watch. The first season isn’t as serialized as the others, so it is easy to jump in and watch a few episodes every now and then.

Every season is good – excellent, with S4 being one of the best drama seasons of the decade.

Yes but be prepared to seeth with anger as you watch and realize that Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Allen White, Noel Fisher, and the show itself have never, ever been nominated for Emmys. Foam at the mouth, even – but know it’s a natural reaction. It is one of the best sometimes Drama’s and sometimes Comedy series ever on TV. Ever.

Of course. It’s really a great show and as usual, with shows like this, I get a lot of envy from those who get to binge instead of waiting for years season to season like the rest of us. It must be fun to binge the hell out of this show. Last night I saw this week’s episode and kind of thought of starting all over again when I realized how big the kids got after watching the intro. Maybe I will one of these days….

And yeah, if you love it, you’ll feel that moment of “oh fuck this girl’s never been nominated for anything…” with Emmy Rossum.

Yes! But be warned. It’s addictive. You’re gonna love the dynamics between characters.

Literally just started this last week and I’m already on Season 5, ep.3…It does make for an amazing binge.

P.S. It’s on Netflix Australia if you have a VPN Wink

ETA: And yeah, the lack of awards recognition is pretty crazy, though I seriously question their drama categorization early on. Then of course, they switched to Comedy after season 4, possibly their most dramatic season and Macy is the only one recognized even though he had fuck all to do and was bed-ridden throughout.

I’m not much surprised that this gem isn’t connected to the industry aside from the name check nominations for those two veterans. It focuses and appeals to the younger mass, and it is very, very nasty.

This is also such an easy show to binge. The first season is easy to fly through because you fall for these characters immediately, and then the other seasons (as was mentioned above) begin to focus more on season-long arcs that make you want to jump right into the next episode. I didn’t binge until after the end of season four and I flew through this show in two weeks. It also helped that, with a 1-4 binge, every season got progressively better. Love this show and can’t stop recommending it enough!

Ridiculous, but now it is an Emmy-winning show, so… Cool

Thought I’d let everyone know that your suggestions truly did work – I blew through Season 1 last week and am now on Season 2, Episode 3. LOVING it so far. Although, the character of Frank really annoys me most of the time, William H. Macy plays him well.

I’m loving Emmy Rossum’s performance and basically all of the kids.
