The eight-episode first season of continuing drama series Sharp Objects on HBO begins filming today. The straight-to-series order follows a reporter with a history of self-harm played by Amy Adams as she investigates the murder of a pair of girls.

This is Adams’s first role in scripted television since recurring in the first two seasons of The Office from 2005 to 2006. This is pilot writer Marti Noxon’s seventh series as showrunner, following Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, UnREAL, Private Practice, Brothers & Sisters, Point Pleasant and Buffy the Vampire Slayer at various points. Jean-Marc Vallée (Wild, Dallas Buyers Club) directs all episodes, as he did on Big Little Lies. The show is based on the novel of the same title by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), who is also writing later episodes. Jason Blum (The Jinx, The Normal Heart, Whiplash, every low-budget horror film of the last decade) executive produces with the aforementioned four.

I love Amy Adams, so when I heard she was involved in this project I bought the book. I thought it was absolute shit. Really bad! And now I’m concerned that this show will suck.

I hope they do some changes to improve the story.

I read the book a few years ago, I remember it being very dark and disturbing, but kind of forget about a lot of the major plot details. But the power behind this project – Adams, Flynn, Vallee, Blum and Noxon – should make this a great piece for HBO. I’m surprised it is a continuing series and that Adams is attached, but it’s hard to imagine her not getting nominated unless this sucks.

2018 lead actress is going to be great: probable incumbent winner Claire Foy versus the final season for Tatiana Maslany versus five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams coming to television versus Julianne Moore coming to television, although she might get pushed to the following season.

Also possibly versus fresh Oscar winner Emma Stone.

Oh duh, I forgot it was comedy and not Drama. Even though it does sound sort of Dramatic.

Patricia Clarkson Cast in Gillian Flynn Drama Sharp Objects: http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/hbo-judd-apatow-gillian-flynn-patricia-clarkson-chris-gethard-1202004011/

Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Patricia Clarkson has landed a starring role in Gillian Flynn‘s TV project “Sharp Objects” for HBO. The straight-to-series eight-episode drama also stars Amy Adams as a recently released psychiatric patient and reporter who has returned home to cover the murders of two preteen girls, much to the chagrin of her estranged mother (Clarkson). As Adora Crellin, Clarkson will depict the hostile queen of “Wind Gap’s” high society who is haunted by her other daughter’s decades-old death.

Excellent casting! Honestly, I am still a bit dubious about Adams, though. She seems really ill suited for the part.

It seems like I am in the minority here but I actually really enjoyed the novel? It’s not great literature or anything but its fun, mysterious, exciting – as soon as I finished I wondered when it would be adapted.

I see they’re not fucking around with the cast. First Clarkson then Perkins and now Messina? I am so in! Oh and the book was trash but such readable trash. I hope the show is the same.

Could we see the possibility of Amy Adams winning an Emmy? If that’s the case, maybe the Academy will finally take note.
