Last year all of the Transparent’s female stars competed in supporting. Do you think any of them should move up to lead this year? What about Amy Landecker?

Im only halfway through season 2, so this could change, but:

Amy Landecker has always felt like the co-lead of the show, if not the lead. So I think she belongs there, and will have an easier chance of getting in this year with three slots open (Kudrow, Poehler and Falco)

Definitely Landecker should go lead. The Season 2 premiere is amazing for her. Jeffrey Tambor should actually submit in supporting based on his screen time, but we know that won’t happen anytime soon.

Amy Landeker should definitely be Lead, otherwise its blatant category fraud IMO, and a most unwise one seeing as how significantly less packed Lead Comedy Actress is than Supporting Comedy Actress.

I think Landecker could have been a legitimate LEAD contender fro season one (both Hoffman and Landecker roles were prominent in season one).

In season two, apart form the premiere, Landecker was a supporting category. She had many great moments on the show, but she didn’t really have a storyline.

So if we really want to pick a lead for season 2 I would say is Hoffman.

Anyway I don’t get why usually Tambor, Hoffman and Light get all the praises. Jay Duplass and Amy Landecker are equally great (Duplass was my season 2 MVP).

If any of the three main females were lead in Season 2 it’s Gaby Hoffman.

Judith Light is unequivocally supporting. She practically bordered on Guest last season with what little she had to do.

Amy Landecker could feasibly go in either, but I feel she would fit better within the Supporting category.

Amy should have been last year and this year as well. She might get the nomination if she swaps this year

Yes, Amy Landecker. I don’t get why she even submitted in the Supporting category to begin with.

What? I am shocked at all of these responses. I do not think that any of the female characters should go lead. Even Tambor didn’t really feel like a lead for season 2. If anything, the “lead” character of the show is the trio of children as a unit. I think they should all stay in supporting (and they would all be nominated if i twere up to me).

And acutally, no, I do not think that Landecker has a good shot of getting into the leading cateogry just because there a few new spaces opening up. With a few exceptions (especially if you are a big name actress) that category tends to go for more traditional broadly funny performances (just look at JLD’s dominance!).

Landecker perhaps could have gone lead in season one, but Hoffman is the closest thing to a female lead in season two, easily. Landecker feels like the lead female in the first two episodes, but takes a back seat after that. Hoffman, meanwhile, almost feels like more of a lead than Tambor. However, it still feels like the entire cast is an ensemble with no true lead (Tambor included) so I’d say keep everyone where they are.

Gaby Hoffman feels like the truest “lead” of all of the characters, but as a true ensemble and the fact that she was nominated in Supporting last year I don’t think they should campaign her for lead.  The nomination last year when there were 8 people nominated doesn’t mean she would make it in lead this year, and there’s no guarantee that Landecker would fill in the supporting nomination even though that’s where she belongs and she truly deserves it.

I wish someone with more time than me would actually track the total screentime for each of the five major characters in all of season 2.

Personally, I think that Hoffman, Lnadecker and Duplass were all the Leads of season 2, with Light and Tambor as Supporting. But we all know there’s no chance Tambor would drop from Lead to Supporting, even though his role seemed a lot smaller and less important to the overall story in the second season.

It’s like Friends or Modern Family. You can’t really have just one of the three (Lnadecker, Hoffman, Duplass) go Lead. Either all three are Leads or all three are Supporting.

Season 2, the all 3 ‘children’ are arguably more of a LEAD than Jeffrey Tambor, but I don’t think any of them will campaign as such.

Gaby Hoffman was more of the spiritual lead in terms of the being the heart of the show in S2, while Amy Landecker had much more screen time (and was almost equally a lead)

But Jeffrey Tambor will likely be the only actor campaigned for the Transparent lead.

I would say no. Hoffman is the only one you could push as a lead to help give Light a chance at getting into supporting, but I wouldn’t do it.

I would be fine with Hoffmann and Landecker in lead, as long as Light stays supporting. However, this show being a half-hour show does not make it a comedy series. It should be nominated, and deserves to win some categories, in drama.
