“The Walking Dead” is the most-watched show on TV these days but it only contends for Creative Arts Emmys. And there are a ton of other shows that have critics swooning and viewers tuning — such as “Hannibal” and “Mr. Robot” — but we know that they will get little, if any, love from the Emmys.
Should the TV academy create a separate category — like it did for Best Western back in 1959 — to honor these shows?
No. If a show isn’t good enough or popular enough to win a Primetime Emmy, then you’re just belittling the show and genre by creating a category just for them.
