Never mind what the “official” plans are. Ideally, what should be the best Emmy strategy for the return of “The X Files”?
Limited Series, of course. I don’t think the revival will be so good, but there’s potential to win Directing and Actress, and get nominated in Actor, Writing, Series. It’s a much easier field to break into.
Per the rulebook, it has to go drama. But 24 sidestepped that this year for obvious reasons and The X-Files unquestionably should too if it wants nominations. I would hope for The X-Files‘ sake though that Fox commits more to it than they did 24 this year. Specifically, 24 was one of only a couple of programs that Fox showcased on their academy screening website, yet did not send out screeners. They also seemingly just forgot to submit it in some categories and lost an easy nomination for stunt coordination as a result. They had previously received two wins from seven consecutive nominations and Live Another Day was even nominated for its stunts by SAG. They were also nominated all eight seasons (and the movie) for sound mixing (two wins), but were the only limited series or movie to submit multiple episodes, so vote-splitting cost them a nomination there.
