Claire Danes.  Maggie Smith. Bryan Cranston. Julia Louis Dreyfus. Julie Bowen.  Ty Burrell. All have the best “odds” to win.  Of course they’ve already all won.

The only new winners currently with the best odds Louis CK (who could easily lose to 2 time winner Jim Parsons and who already won for writing) and Mandy Pantkin.

Cranston could easily lose to Damian Lewis who of course…has already won just last year.

None of the other frontrunners seem to be particularly vulnerable besides Smith who has Anna Gunn. But I am of the thinking Smith could win without people even watching the tapes.

I’ve given up hope of Krakowski beating Bowen.  Bowen simply too much screen time thanks to Charo. Not like she does anything special, but all her competitors have limited screen time. So her performance feels more “substancial” as a result.

So basically, this could be the most boring Emmy ceremony in quite some time from my end if the odds makers are correct. Not saying they are undeserving (well in some cases they are), just can’t get excited over the same exact people winning.

I think that Lewis, without a doubt, has the best tape in the category, so I think he has the Emmy locked up. Also, they LOVE to repeat winners in this category. As much as I love Louis C.K., I don’t know if he can win Comedy Lead Actor. He has a really good episode, don’t get me wrong. But, lets face it, the dude is cursed. First, no one has ever won an Emmy for playing themselves (unless your name is Betty White or Emma Thompson). Secondly, the Emmys absolutely hate comedians. The Academy (at least the acting branch, anyway) doesn’t think that comedians are serious actors. I think that is what screwed Denis Leary out of a well-deserved Emmy for Rescue Me. Also, the nominee who has the funniest tape in the category usually wins (example: Jon Cryer’s win last year), and this year, Jim Parsons has the funniest tape in the category. He did something that the other nominees couldn’t do: have me laughing nonstop, from beginning to end.

So basically, for those of us that like to see equally worthy people win their first Emmy, we need to hope the Drama Supporting Actress panel has the courage to not check off Dame Maggie’s name?  Cause if not it’s all been there seen that done that winners.

    Yikes.

I haven’t mentioned Bowen in a while, so I’m going to mention her again…

    Bowen.

     I jest, I jest…

Seriously, though, I agree that it appears to be pretty predictable all across the board this year. Any other year like this? Are there any categories that could have surprises (a la McCarthy and Parsons winning in 2011, even Cryer last year etc.). We have to remember though that the Emmys have the power to be predictable and repetitive, because the same shows are on the air year after year, unlike the Tonys and the Oscars etc., where there is a shake up of productions/performances every single year, so it may just as predictable as previous years, when Frasier kept winning best comedy, or Tony Shalhoub won 3 best actor gongs for Monk.

    Mandy Patinkin has an Emmy.

Claire Danes.  Maggie Smith. Bryan Cranston. Julia
Louis Dreyfus. Julie Bowen.  Ty Burrell. All have the best “odds” to
win.  Of course they’ve already all won.

Anna Gunn has better Gold Derby racetrack odds than Maggie Smith.

The “experts” Odds give Dame Maggie a 57% chance.

Unless you specify, you are referring to the “combined” odds, which favour Gunn.  The “editors” odds, “users” odds and “top 24” odds also favour Gunn and at a larger margin than the experts favour Smith (only at 54%, by the way) to Gunn.

I don’t really have a problem with repeat winners if they are deserving, because that’s not necessarily voter laziness.

I think Anna Gunn will win. She has a winning tape and so I think the buzz from Breaking Bad’s final episodes airing (in which she, through two episodes, has been excellent) will only help. I don’t necessarily think this is like last year where it was all kind of a wash. Gunn has the best tape. So there is a viable alternative to Smith.

Patinkin could very well lose to Banks, if they go for BB in a big way.

But I think Lewis and Danes will repeat.

Re: Bowen having two episodes — well, Krakowski also does, so I’m not sure that’s a factor in Bowen’s advantage.

What about the series awards, though? Modern Family could lose to 30 Rock (or Louie if voters are feeling “adventurous”) and Breaking Bad could finally win, too.

Also I have no idea how those odds are calculated. I’m not sure why Cranston is still ahead of Lewis, for example, when the latter’s tape is easily superior to his.

I haven’t made any official predictions yet…but I honestly think that the 4 Drama Acting winners last year will repeat this year (yes, that includes Aaron Paul). Danes and Lewis are IMO the strongest in their categories. And, admittedly, Maggie Smith submitted a great episode (probably even better than her submission last year.), although she’s still maybe 4th or 5th in my preferences.

When it comes to comedy…the winners could very well at least be actors who have already won in the post (so maybe Fey as opposed to JLD who won last year, Jim Parsons, Bowen and Burrell)

Even in series, Modern Family and Homeland could very well repeat again.

We could very well end up having a year where every single winner in the Drama and Comedy Series, Lead Acting, and Supporting categories (minus Lead Actor – Comedy) all repeat again. I can’t remember the last time that has happened, and I’m not sure it ever has.

Depresssing.  I don’t mind a couple of repeat winners.  But it’s looking more and more like the vast majority will be.

I guess I’ll get a head start on the Oscars this year.

I don’t want to see repeat winners in any category!!!! Please stop saying that it will happen I really don’t know about the lead drama category but I have waited so long to see Jon Hamm win and I want to see it this year he was robbed in 2011 when he and Slattery should have won I don’t watch DOWNTON ABBEY so I want Anna Gunn to win although her character is unlikeable

I don’t really understand why people are saying “Jon Hamm was robbed”. Kyle Chandler definitely deserved the win.
