With the new voting rules I’m feeling kind of apathetic towards the whole submission thing.

    Do they even still matter?

I think so as well, yes. As I’ve said hundred times, it seems impossible for voters to watch them all- even if they want to.
This year for acting categories; there are 99 actors nominated. And considering some of them are from hour-long shows, some of them are from sticoms and some of them are from 5-6(or 13) hourlong miniseries, it’s probably at least 100 hours one voter should spend to watch all the nominees.. And I didn’t even count the Program awards every voter should vote including acting branch, which includes Drama, Comedy, Limited Series, TV Movie, Variety Talk, Variety Sketch, Variety Special, Reality programs and more.
And considering Final Voting Round will only last 10 days(between August 17 to 28) it’s logically impossible/craziness to watch them all. And why would they? I mean, it’s not like, they will lock them in one room and force them to watch all of it. The final round ballots wil be available on the Academy’s webiste on August 10 and who knows what voters would do after that. Would you watch if you were one of the voters?

I wish Academy will make a clarification about that later. Because right now, with this only information we had, things doesn’t make sense at all. Do you want all of your voters to participate the both nominating and winning process? Fine. Then just say it will be like Oscars, it will be determined by popular votes. But don’t include the tape thing in it and made it online while you very well know how majority of the voters would do.

Right now, even though I’m still wondering which actors would submit which episode or what will be series’ submitted tapes(This is my favourite thing about Emmys) I won’t give the submissions the credit I’ve been giving before, and will ignore them while make my predictions.

They could ask the networks to clip their all nominees episode submissions and include only the scenes which that particular nominee was in. That would made it whole process much much easier and finally we might have the most reliable, equitable voting process in the award business! I think this is the only way out for to make these tape thing works. Still it could take hours for voters to watch all of it… but better than nothing.

And if only they ask the nominees from Miniseries to submit one episode only instead of the whole series… That’d be amazing.
