    Watch Stephen Colbert’s Emmys celebration — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVOQTOKQttA

I expect we’ll see The Colbert Report win Variety Series the next five years or so.

I’d love to see Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart co-host the Emmys in the near future (maybe in 2015).

That was great. Colbert’s wins were one of the few bright spots of this year’s Emmys.

Does Jon Stewart need 24 Emmys? Does Stephen Colbert need 17? I mean if he were to win both writing and series for the next 5 years, he would have 17 EMMYS. Enough is enough lol.

I was wondering how Colbert would play off his Emmy on the show, and he really exceeded my expectations.

This was my favorite win of the night, and it really deserved it. However, my worst fear is that he dominates this category for the next decade. Another two or three wins will be justified, but then we’ll need a bit of variety (haha). Maybe Bill Maher is next in line? What is it – 31 nominations without a win?

Why spread the wealth? If Colbert can keep up his current level of quality, I say give him the next decade!

I’m for worthy winners, regardless of amount of times they’ve won. And Bill Maher is one of the weaker guys in the category… I’d rather he lose 50 times than beat Colbert undeservedly.

That’s very true – my main issue is I don’t want a domineering figure in this race – if Colbert can be consistently beyond excellent, then he should win. I also think if someone with good quality comes along, then they should also win…Maher may be weak, but he’s funny and he should at least win one Emmy in his career, for Real Time or not.

Also, I have a feeling that the next in “line” after Colbert would be Fallon before Maher. And for all we know, this year could be a blip and next year it’s back to “The Daily Show” and Stewart. I’m glad Colbert was able to pull this off all the same. I never mind spreading the wealth around, and I don’t want it to get to a point where we’re hating Colbert for being a juggernaut, especially when the cause of that is the Emmy voters, not the habitual winners.

    That was great.

    Indeed.

He consistently brings it, so I am glad that Colbert was the one to finally take down Jon Stewart, although Craig Ferguson and Conan also should have won in the last decade.

I have said it before, but I do not think that the Emmys like Fallon like we and people in general do.  His was the only variety show without any other nominations and variety series was also the only nomination that it got last year.  Real Time still gets nominated for writing.  Even shows that are not nominated for variety series are showing up other places like Conan in editing or Portlandia for writing and directing and winning costumes.

I think that Kimmel is next in line because he kind of has the tapes and Saturday Night Live because of the legacy and potential tape.

I think Fallon could genuinely be the next successor post-“Tonight Show” move. He might also be the more consensus choice over Kimmel or Maher, though Maher does continue to be nominated year after year, so the general respect is there for him with nominations at least. But that talk is all premature with Stewart and Colbert still running strong.
