While I am happy for season 2, only Euro soccer teams should be relegated. Not TV shows. And Supergirl was relegated today. So epically unfair. :((((
The details on the move to purgatory, aka the SeeDub: http://deadline.com/2016/05/supergirl-moves-the-cw-renewed-season-2-melissa-benoist-1201754579/
Les Moonves: Lying Liar who Lies. On March 8, he promised THIS:
Moonves Says CBS Plans to Renew Freshman Shows:
and then today Supergirl gets sent down to the minor leagues, aka the SeeDub? Moonves double-crossed the show is what it looks from here. What changed in those 65 days between then and today? How can a multi-billion $ network like CBS, swimming in $$, have *licensing fee issues*? Unless they want to remain the old folks and procedurals network. There’s GOT to be more to this. Now you guarantee SG’s ratings + budget will be at least halved, shedding of cast members and looking as minor league as the minor league network it’s going to.
Flockhart’s a likely goner, maybe Chyler Leigh and David Harewood, too (big contracts). CDN dollar saves 25% off the bat, then another 25% or more saved in Provincial Tax Credits (when they employ local labor). They aren’t shooting in Vancouver just for the fresh air.
The CW will have nine shows in Vancouver next season:
Supernatural season 12
Arrow season 5
The 100 season 4
The Flash season 3
iZombie season 3
Legends of Tomorrow season 2
Supergirl season 2
Frequency season 1
Riverdale season 1
I have appeared as an extra in the ones in boldface.
I actually am happy about the switch because the CW knows how to handle a show like this (Smallvile, The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow).
I just feel sorry for the people who live in areas where their TV systems don’t carry CW – in some cities, the CW is the secondary channel on another network affiliate’s channel, and some systems (AT&T U-Verse, and maybe DirecTV and/or Dish as well) will not carry secondary channels unless they’re one of the “big four” networks.
The problem is that supergirl on CBS performed exactly like one of its non Ncis procedurals with ratings and that was with all the buzz it got. It needed to be on cw. Didn’t actually bring anyone to CBS.
