Wasn’t there a thread like this a while ago?

Anyway, you can probably add about 5 episodes from this past season of 30 Rock as Jane Krakowski’s tapes that could have or should have won.

Jenna Fischer should have been nominated and would have been a threat for season six of The Office, her tape had to be the one where she finds out about Michael and her mom. I saw this episode recently and it was great for her.

Will Arnett in season 1 episode 22 “Let Them Eat Cake”- I’m not sure I have ever seen a more perfect submission for a supporting comedy actor. The BEES! BEADS!? Scene, in prison talking about Bees and not wanting to testify” this family runs into problems and let’s have GOB fuck our way out of it”, GOB atkins meeting with kitty, “what about macaroni… Let me finish… Salad”, the power grab scene circling Michael “there are six things I’m mad about”, hospital scene ” I speak for the family now, I mean I’d rather not obviously, I don’t know what I’d say, I mean why do I have to be the one, why do I have to be the one? Why does this have to become my problem? No, you know what what? I’m out. Forget it, find someone else. I’m sick of this, I’m sick of doing everything for this family” (greatest comedic monologue ever), the whole crying/old big bear scene. If there was an all time GD awards based on tapes what would beat this?!

Thread for episodes for actors that never got nominated but would have if nominated. Especially deserving nominee like Will Arnett and Chris Bauer.

Walton Goggins would have been unbeatable with ” Family Meeting” for The Shield.  He also would have had a great tape for Season 1 of Justified with the Pilot in Guest Actor in 2010.

Speaking of Guest Actor 2010, I honestly believe that Zach Gilford would have beaten John Lithgow with ” The Son” in that year had he gotten in.

I thought Walton Goggins could have beat Lithgow with the finale of Justified. Seriously, rewatch it. It was supporting actor deserving of a win.

Goggins, with the finale of The Shield, could’ve won Supporting Actor the year before (2009), though he would have had serious competition from Michael Emerson and Aaron Paul. As for 2010, the only person who could’ve beaten John Lithgow in Guest Actor was Zach Gilford, IMO. “The Son” would’ve leveled the field for Gilford. and the Guest Actor race would’ve been much tougher to call. I don’t think Goggins, great as he was in the season 1 finale of Justified, would’ve won had he been nominated. And I don’t think he even submitted the finale as his episode. According to the plot synopsis listed alongside Goggins’ name on the 2010 ballot, it appears he submitted Veterans, episode 1.11, in which he is trying to cover up his murder of a government informant. That episode wouldn’t have beaten Lithgow’s “Road Kill” or Gilford’s “The Son”. And even his best one that year, the episode where he gives the speech in the church, would not have beaten them either. Now, for Season 2 of Justified, he could’ve won, and his tape last year was great (The I of the Storm). Unfortunately for him, he faced Peter Dinklage, who deservingly won and who had a slightly better season as well as a better tape (Baelor), IMO.

There were so many great Guest turns from Justified Season 1: You had Goggins, Jere Burns’ great introduction arc, Alan Ruck as the fugitive dentist, W. Earl Brown, Raymond Barry; the category could have been filled with men from that show.

Well, of course Laurie Metcalf would have won Guest Actress in a Comedy if she hadn’t submitted the Season 3 premiere, but the Bang episode.

    Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars (“Pilot”)
Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights (“I Think We Should Have Sex”)
Lauren Graham, Gilmore Girls (“Pilot” and many others)
Lauren Graham, Parenthood (“Man Versus Possum”)
Moses Gunn, Homicide: Life on the Street (“Three Men and Adena”)
Melora Hardin, The Office (“Dinner Party”)
Stephanie March, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (“Guilt”)
    S. Epatha Merkerson, Law & Order (“Fed” and many others)
    Forest Whitaker, The Shield (“Kavanaugh”)

With Big Love, all of the sister wives and Amanda Seyfried had Emmy-worthy tapes. Getting the nomination was the toughest part.

Toughest of all is getting a guest acting nomination. Here are categories where you can give an acclaimed performance and be a well-respected actor and still not get in (I believe this is where Whitaker submitted in 2006, but just look at Lucy Liu and Louise Fletcher this year). It’s even more difficult when you’re an unknown. Allison Janney was very good as a reluctant witness in an early Law & Order episode but I recognize that her chances of a nomination back then were… not very good.

Did you create this redundant thread just so you could shout out Will Arnett? Is he your comedy version of A Paul?

Elisabeth Mitchell, “One of Us” Lost
Lauren Graham, “Pilot” Gilmore girls (drama)
Lauren Graham, “Farewell, My Pet” (comedy)
Lauren Graham, “Raincoats and Recipes” Gilmore girls (comedy)
Connie Britton, “Bad Ideas”, Friday Night Lights
January Jones, “A Night to Remember” Mad Men
    Mary McDonnell, “Revelations” Battlestar Galactica
Sarah Michelle Gellar “The Body” Buffy
    Sarah Michelle Gellar “Becoming” Buffy
Lauren Ambrose “All Alone” Six Feet Under”

Vicent Kartheiser, “Flight 1”, Mad Men
Andre Braugher, “Black and Blue”, Homicide: Life on the Street
Zach Gilford, “The Son” Friday Night Lights
Henry Ian Cusick, “The Constant” Lost
    John Noble, “Subject 13” Fringe
    John Noble “Peter” Fringe
Walton Goggins, “Family Meeting” The Shield
And sure, Will Arnett, “Let Them Eat Cake” Arrested Development

There are also many episodes for John McGinley and Michael Chiklis that I can’t think of right now.
