No premiere date yet, maybe this will be a contender next year?February 11, 2014 at 4:43 pm #310688
Happy for Robbins but Jack Black is very hit or miss………I’d give it a shot though.February 11, 2014 at 5:00 pm #310689
Now that more details have come out, it seems more like a drama but it’s still a half hour show.February 11, 2014 at 5:02 pm #310690
Which means comedy in terms of awards.February 11, 2014 at 5:13 pm #310691
Jack Black is always good with good material. And it’s an HBO comedy, so I doubt he’ll be doing his conventional mugging.February 11, 2014 at 7:57 pm #310692
For whatever reason, Robbins is definitely a under-utilized guy in Hollywood right now, so I like that he’s starring in an HBO show.
Not big on Jack Black, but, he can be fairly good in the right situation..February 12, 2014 at 4:26 am #310693
Nice for Tim Robbins. Can’t stand Jack Black though. Ugh.June 21, 2015 at 8:33 pm #310694
Really solid opener. Interested to see how this goes. Tim Robbins is great as ever and Black did fine but I’m sure he’ll be wonderful as the season continues. Mimi Kennedy was great too I think she’ll be a scene stealer in this series.June 21, 2015 at 8:43 pm #310695
Thought it was bad and even exhausting. There was too much going on… The Jack Black plot seemed like a conpletely different show. They have to make all these plots come together or this will feel like a chore. The situation room scenes too were umderwhelming. All the jokes involving Tim Robbins’ character are recycled from already tiresome comic vehicles. Feels like a guaranteed Golden Globe nominee though!June 22, 2015 at 3:19 pm #310696
Much like True Detective and Ballers, I came away from The Brink intrigued to see where it’s going from here after watching it last night. Leans very hard on Dr. Strangelove-esque satire, and I’m not sure if the Situation Room scenes were quite enough to really pull that off. Tim Robbins was good, as expected, and Jack Black should get better. We’ll see where this one goes. Pilots are tough to pull off successfully sometimes, and this is no exception as there were plenty of misses to go with the couple of good moments. But I’m excited to see how it continues to develop the next couple of episodes.June 22, 2015 at 6:04 pm #310697
Out of all the HBO season premieres on Sunday, I think this was my favorite. I thought it was funny, and somehow brought new life to a common topic. (Very similar to Homeland plots, especially season 4) I look forward to seeing where this goes.
Loved Mimi Kennedy as well! Hope she really starts to gain some traction.
Also thought Pablo Schrieber was great!October 28, 2015 at 9:49 pm #310698
Cancelled after a renewal. It was ok but definitely didn’t reach the potential. Tim Robbins was still best in show and could get a Globe nom possibly but cancelled shows rarely get attention from them.October 28, 2015 at 10:25 pm #310699
Pretty embarrassing to renew and then change your mind, and quite a disservice to cast/crew. How does that happen?October 28, 2015 at 11:49 pm #310700
They probably have a new half hour show that they have to let a show go. I would have rathered it have been BallersOctober 29, 2015 at 5:40 am #310701
Oh not me, I loved Ballers. One of my favorite new comedies in a while actually. I would love for Johnson to get at least a Globe nod.
The Brink however was a chore to get through at times. Such an uneven tone between the serious and the silly.
