Did anybody watch the premiere of the criminally underrated sitcom. It is one of the best written shows on TV.May 31, 2017 at 8:10 pm #1202107532
I would love this show to gain traction at the Emmys. David Allen Grier is one of the best comedians on TV. I would love to see Lil Rel get love due to Get Out buzz. It is not eligible for this years Emmys.May 31, 2017 at 8:12 pm #1202107533
I’m probably going to start watching season 1 soon, I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about this show. It’s not something I’d normally give a second glance to so I can see why it would be underrated.May 31, 2017 at 8:14 pm #1202107534

Season 1 was not very good. Season 2 was a huge step upMay 31, 2017 at 8:16 pm #1202107538
I’ll make sure to keep that under consideration.May 31, 2017 at 8:37 pm #1202107552
“Mama, I might be a raper”
“Yes means yes” was an amazing episode.
It would definitely be Lil Rel’s tape if he got nominated even though there is no chance. I was dying when he was trying to convince the woman that he raped her. I was DYING>
It was a serious and well written episode but it had me laughing so hard.
David Allen Grier and Loretta Devine are comedy gold. They are both Emmy worthy.
THe whole ensemble is gold and should be a SAG contender.

Sepinwall said the episodes with the most serious topics are usually the funniest which really intrigues me, I don’t think I’ve seen any shows I can say that about.May 31, 2017 at 9:03 pm #1202107576

That is 1000% true. That is what the writers are best at. The premiere was about rape and it should not have been that funny.
The second episode that also aired tonight, “Support the troops” was good, but not serious, and not near as funny.
Another show that is funniest when it is serious is Mom. See: “A cricket and a hedge made of gold”.
Lil Rel was once again top notch but it would make an amazing tape for David Allen Grier. Such a great actor.

“You know kids, sometimes racism stems from a place of love”
I LOVE this show!June 8, 2017 at 11:11 pm #1202115110
This season is KILLING IT!!!! Damn, would be my personal winner if it was eligible for this season.
This episode should be a writing contender, as should “yes means yes”.
This episode was so funny yet so sad. Marla Gibbs was spot on nd should be a guest contender.
Lil Rel is great as always.
But the real MVP of this episode was David Allen Grier. Damn! That was a winning tape right there. He struck it out of the park. It will be such a tragedy when this show is completley ignored come the next Emmy season. Especially Grier who delivers some Emmy winning level work in this episode.
“Grandma Francis” grade: AJune 14, 2017 at 11:09 pm #1202121501
I was wondering whY an episode about hot people was called “shoot-Up–Able”.
This episode was actaullY called “Lesbian Wedding”.
It was good but not one of the great episodes. Definatle a standout episode for Amber Stevens West. She was good. So was Loretta Devine.

Please please please watch this show. It is one of the best comedies on TV. Another killer episode. “Cynthia’s Birthday” was not only one of the funniest episodes of TV in a long time, but it was incredibly smart and well written. I’m surprised NBC let them use the N word. The last line of the show with Loretta Devine was quite possibly the funniest scene I’ve seen this year. Damn it was a great episode. I am praying this show isn’t ignored by the Emmys. Hopefully the critics start beating the drum for this show. It’s the best season yet. This show NEEDS Emmys. Loretta Devine is LIFE!!!
episode grade: A

“Cynthia’s Birthday” was so excellently written and hit close to home (my family and I have had this debate over and over before). And completely agree that the final scene and line from Loretta Devine is an all-time favorite for me now from any show!
PLEASE start watching this if you don’t already y’all, you won’t regret it!June 28, 2017 at 9:56 pm #1202136105
Even one of the weakest episodes of this season is still better than 99% of shows on TV right now. The Carmichael Show is the best show on TV right now and its such a shame more people aren’t watching. “Shoot-able” was a good episode. If by some miracle Jerrod Carmichael gets nominated, this is obviously his tape. He was the MVP.
My grade: B+
PLEASE WATCH THIS SHOW!!!!! It isn’t a show that requires you to watch every episode. I highly recomend wtching “Cynthia’s Birthday”, “Yes Means Yes”, and/or “Grandma Francis” if you want to sample it.
Oh I hope that this is renewed and that it gets some love come Emmy seasons. I am not joking when I say this season is one of the all time great comedy TV seasons.
