New NBC comedy that had a rough pilot (besides Devine) and boy does this show get better and better. The leads need to get in their groove a little more, but they can easily win over audiences as they grow into their characters. The real props go to Devine and Grier. They remind me so much of Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle. They rule the screen every time they are on it. NBC needs to give this a chance. Also Devine can beat Janney if she gets Emmy nominated.

Solid show with so much potential and it will get better and better each season too. It has that feeling. Grier is so good. Him and Devine should be getting recognition.

I agree each episode has gotten better. I also agree with the comparison to ELR. It was the first show that came to mind.  I’ve heard others (in reviews) try to compare it to All In The Family.    I view it as a mix between AITF and ELR.   I think the thing I admire most about this show is that they are at least trying to tackle social issues, something no comedy has done in many years. At least not in this style. In some ways it reminds me of the shows from the 80’s and 90’s like A Different World or The Facts of Life or Designing Women, all of which often mixed social commentary with the comedy.    I say this as a huge compliment to the show. It has a lot of room to grow.

Jerrod Carmichael certianly is the weakest point of the show so far, in terms of acting, but I think, like Ray Romano or Jerry Seinfeld has a lot of potential to grow. Both of those actors were really weak in their first season or two.   The writing is solid, but needs time to really find itself and needs more nuance.   I think the writers room on this show is in dire need of a strong producer/writer with a lot of expirence somebody to do for this show what Debbie Allen did for “‘A Different World”, give it a signature tone and voice.

I think the ratings have been promising and I hope NBC sticks with it, because it is far more worthy of airtime than that dreadful Undateable, or that new show with Mark Paul Gosslear that looks terrible too.
