Matthew Goode is getting one of the hardest pushes for a guest this year.  The FYC materials treat this as a four-person ensemble.  The Crown stands out as the only incumbent drama nominee that has consensus that it was better this year.  People liked Westworld better last year, The Handmaid’s Tale seems to have fallen slightly, reactions are mixed on whether This is Us improved or slumped, people are not as excited about Stranger Things and Game of Thrones is old and people had timeline issues.  It is tricky because The Crown is not exactly a juggernaut like even Stranger Things.  It has never been nominated by DGA or WGA and it only got two acting nominations last year.

I have to disagree on some of that. The Crown S2 was absolutely even better and that is also reflected in the reception, I agree. This Is Us had even more hype this season than it did last season and overall it had much bigger episodes. I personally think S2 was better than S1. Stranger Things S2 seemed to be on par with S1 in general, maybe a tad worse. THT S2 is actually received very well everywhere else except for on Goldderby. Every other place is singing praises for this show. GOT had a rough S7 IMO and some people agree with that but overall, S7 was still very popular. Westworld season 2 is underwhelming for many people.

In addressing WGA it wasn’t eligible last year, so it will surely get nominated this year, and for it’s first season, voting had started too early for much of the guild to see it.

DGA is impossible to get into when GoT exists.

Doing the same thing here as I did with GoT (because this is the show that should be winning the Emmy):

Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Period Or Fantasy Program (One Hour Or More): Beryl

Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series

Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series (One Hour): Beryl (Adriano Goldman, ASC, ABC)

Outstanding Period Costumes: Dear Mrs Kennedy

Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series: Paterfamilias (Stephen Daldry)

Outstanding Hairstyling For A Single-Camera Series: Dear Mrs Kennedy (As the series progressed many emotional storylines created an opportunity for more hair pieces and wigs, made in different colours. For the Queen, I made the hair darker so she looks harder and older. Prince Philip’s hair was made more sparse and ashier in colour, which helped when they meet the Kennedys, showing them to be less fashionable. For the Kennedys I chose warm colours and shiny texture, which showed the differences between their worlds.)

Outstanding Music Supervision: Beryl (Sue Crawshaw)

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series: Claire Foy (as Queen Elizabeth II)
Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series: Matt Smith (as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh)
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series: Vanessa Kirby (as Princess Margaret)
Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series: Matthew Goode (as Tony Armstrong-Jones in Matrimonium)
Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series: Michael C Hall (as President Kennedy in Dear Mrs Kennedy)
Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series: Jodi Balfour (as Jackie Kennedy in Dear Mrs Kennedy)

Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series: Beryl (Yan Miles, ACE)
Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series: Marionettes (Alexandra Mackie, ACE)
Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series: Paterfamilias (Pia Di Ciaula)
Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series: Vergangenheit (Una Ni Dhonghaile)

    Outstanding Drama Series

Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour): Misadventure

Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour): Misdaventure

Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Supporting Role: Misadventure

Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series: Mystery Man
