Didn’t see a thread when I searched on here, so here it is.

Well publicised as a huge series for Netflix financially, The Crown – marking the reign of Queen Elizabeth II over six decades, and possibly six seasons, has released a four minute first look on Twitter!

Claire Foy, ladies and gentlemen! Finally, the world will see how brilliant this woman is. And that she should already be an Emmy winner for “Wolf Hall.”

I for one am more anxious for Jared Harris, Matt Smith and of course, John Lithgow.

Battle of the Churchills for the Emmys/Globes/TV BAFTAs in the coming year(s)? Lithgow in The Crown and Michael Gambon in the upcoming Churchill’s Secret!

Seems tailor made to scoop up all of the restless Downton voters come next Emmys, no?

The Crown is the most expensive drama series ever, so it better be fucking amazing for Netflix’s sake. I am predicting it to take the Golden Globe and the Emmy.

Claire Foy got shafted by the Emmys (even though she was arguably lead in a supporting category), the Globes (even though they awarded the miniseries itself) and SAG (even though they they had space for Nicole Kidman, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and Kristen Wiig), so I am ready for her revenge.

She was definitely supporting in Wolf Hall. I remember her being nominated for a few things. I actually visited the Wolf Hall set. Fantastic show. I hear that she’s not in that many episodes of The Crown, so will her submission be in lead or supporting?

Edit: misunderstood the show structure (6 decades over multiple seasons not a single season).

I wonder if Helen Mirren reprises her role for the later seasons.

This is going to be big nonetheless, but I have my doubts about whether Netflix is the best place to air a serious period drama like this. Most of their shows have been aimed at youngs or young adults so far. The sweet spot for this show might be too out of the touch to discover it on streaming.

G&F never attracted the Emmy attention it was hoping for. But I guess this will be more like HoC, something more accessible for every age, 40-50 being its real attraction.

5/5 stars — The Daily Telegraph

    5/5 stars — The Times

The Crown is a beautifully produced series about a family whose private lives, beneath the expensive gowns and within their luxurious homes, are painfully ordinary. And therein lay the true beauty of the series: An enchanting fairytale at first glance, The Crown is a compelling character study of a powerful family, whose biggest tragedy is that they have no power at all.” — Hypable

“By the end of the 10-episode first season, which follows Elizabeth around the time of the death of her father and during her first few years on the throne, a viewer might feel as though he or she has lived through that era in real time. The drama meanders on at such length that all subtext is eventually hauled out and made text, now and then in the form of lumbering, on-the-nose dialogue.” — Mo Ryan

I’m cautiously eager about this show. “Downtown Abbey” bored me to tears, and it is the obvious comparison here, but the trailers have really intrigued me.

A drama win is highly possible. A Claire Foy win is even likelier. And don’t rule out the directing, writing, Vanessa Kirby, Jared Harris, or John Lithgow.

Odd, I definitely recall posting about The Crown in another “Crown” thread. Weird, but not the first time.

This series’ subject is right up my alley; my ‘cup of tea’, etc.

Lol. And I love this cast, including Claire Foy, who gives one of the very best portrayals of Anne Boleyn that I have ever seen. And I’ve probably seen them all.

Hope this series lives up to expectations for all.
