The funniest show of last season returns this Sunday.  Only Will Forte and Kristen Schaal are billed in the press releases, but January Jones is in the promotional photographs.  It would be weird for Cleopatra Coleman at least not to come back, since she was only a regular for the last three episodes of the first season.  It sounds like the first couple of episodes are just Phil and Carol, with guest appearances by Jason Sudeikis and yet another new character.  The beard is back.

I maintain that this show above all others got screwed by the new Emmy popularity voting.  Under the tape system, I think that it would have won three of its nominations (writing, directing, editing).  My guess right now is that this show either totally collapses or almost totally collapses at the Emmys next year with an actor nomination at best.  Hopefully I am wrong and it expands into the series category; it already far exceeded my expectations with its four nominations this year.

SO looking forward to Season 2! This show was such a surprise delight for me (I binge-watched the entirety of Season 1 last month) and can’t wait for it to return. The humor is just the perfect mix of sweet, sharp and quirky.

I watched the entirety of this show on one day in July. I’m glad it’s coming back and having a sort of recall back to the original couple. Looking forward to seeing what they do now.

I’m in love wth this show and can’t wait for it to come back.

I’m also worried that it might be overlooked Emmy-wise next year, but if it makes an even bigger impression on audiences and critics this year it could still make some waves.

I liked the season premiere, but didn’t love it. Curious to see what everyone else thought.

Id give the premiere a B+. Schall and Forte were great. Curious to see what happened to the rest of the Tuscon Crew

I quite enjoyed it. Feels like only a small part of something bigger, though.

I really liked the premiere, I think they did right by eliminating the Tucson crew. The show works better when it’s only about Phil (and Carol). I want flashbacks! I want to know more about the virus!

Also, the use of MIA’s Paper Planes while Carol was shooting was one of the funniest things this show has ever done.

I caught up with episodes 3-12 this weekend and liked them better than the intial first 2 episodes that didn’t hold my attention. I liked it, didn’t love it. Kristen Schaal and January Jones are the shining stars of this show. They are so great. Mel Rodriguez was also charming.

The first episode of season 2 was back to the olden days. Kind of boring but once more people start showing up it seems like it will get better

I really enjoyed the Season 2 premiere! It was the closest episode, in style and feel, to the pilot…since the pilot!

I hope they didn’t completely eliminate the Tuscon crew – I liked most of them. I feel like they gotta introduce new characters or bring them back. While I love Will Forte and Kristen Schal together, they can’t carry the entire series with the occasional Jason Sudeikis cameo from space.

So glad to have this show back in my life!

Odd that you say this since most seem to feel the exact opposite.

I personally enjoy both iterations of the show – with a lot of characters and without. It’s nice to see that they can still find a way to get Phil Miller on his own even though we know there are more people out there. I’m looking forward to the return of the Tuscon crew and the likely introduction of new characters, but I also appreciate Phil doing his own thing. It’s good that there’s variety.

    Agreed! I died.

I really liked the premiere, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Tucson crew again and finding out what they went through in the months that Phil and Carol have been away.

I’m intrigued by the Sudeikis storyline, and I wonder how they will (inevitably) get him back to Earth and what that will add to the series.

This is probably the first time in I don’t know how long that I agree with you on something. Thought would never see that day coming.
